Yes all the stringers and bulks are in but not completely glassed, still need to drop in the decks for the fuel tank and ski locker.
We plan on gel coat the deck and a snap in carpet.

As we were working on the boat today had a thought about creating a live well under one of the seats in the bow. It would have to be glassed in. Question: is there any problems if the walk through section of the cap is glassed to the floor in order to create a watertight area for a livewell?

No pics this week. Installed more glass on the stringers, cut the ply for the floor and glassed the back side and finished glassing the fuel tank area. Lots of rain today.

Hopefully next week we can have a deck in the boat! Getting the fuel tank locker finished, deck ply cut,fit and the underside glassed with csm, limber holes in the bulks....all in all not a bad weekend.

We ran out of 435 resin and had to resort to the Home Depot 3M resin......That has to be some of the worst stuff! I'm glad its under the deck. I think the 435 went on with much less effort.... Glad we have another 5 gal. on the way with the 1708 biax and 4oz cloth for the top side :D

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

When I picked up the boat I got the receipt for the engine swap... Seems the former owner bought it from a marina used then the motor went south....they installed a new complete motor and drive @ 500 hours.....boat now has 620. I did look over the motor ( I was an A+ auto tech for 15 years) It was properly winterized, has coolant in the block and manifolds and was fogged....first thing I did was turn the crank by hand to make sure it wasn't seized. There is no rust on the motor, paint is like new when you wipe it down with a cloth. I know anything can happen but I think were in good shape!

Are you gonna post pic's of the final product that's below deck before sealing her up? I would like to see what you came up with for drainage for my own possible future use for comparison. I do like your work ethic and results of it!

Thanks FF

Yes will will have pics before the deck goes down.
For drainage we took some 1" pvc pipe and cut about 1" nipples, We drilled 1 3/8" holes with a paddle bit through the bulkheads as low to the hull as we could. I then took some 3M 5200 and coated the holes to seal the exposed wood. Then ran a bead of 5200 around the nipple and slid it in the hole. I then ran a bead on the other side to seal it up.

This was all done at the hull below the fuel tank locker and ski locker. We then glassed in the sole decks, and we will be drilling a hole in each of them so they will drain down below the lockers and run to the bilge. We will also drill a hole in each stringer to give any water that might get in access to the fuel tank locker and find its way out via the drain hole in there. I hope that gives you some sort of idea whats going on.

Thank you for you kind words on our work :) We do try to do the best we can and with the help and inspiration of the people on iboats it's been going very well!

I did the same thing on the under side of my deck because I was running low on the 435 but then I said screw it and ordered more 435 I think it goes twice as far and is 10x easer to work with,it wets out csm soooo much easier, total waste of money to buy that 3m junk imo. sounds like you made some good progress despite the weather, we are currently getting some snow after raining all day.

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Rick,
Your pictures have been so helpfull. I have studied the heck out of them and made some big changes to my project. I never thought of leaving the motor mounts and trying to glue a new stringer in place. One side I have not done yet and am thinking of using PL and gluing in the new stringer to the existing glass in the motor mount area. Then glassing the back in. My wood is good in the existing mount, but was not in the one I tore out.Heck I could have removed and glued in new wood. Maybe even left the first mount in. Still pondering that one. Anyway, I just can't thank you enough for posting your pics!!! Stefan in WV

Hey Rick!
Just saw your post on placing drain holes! Just wondering if it would be worth while placing a weep hole in stringers where they join the transom as would not this be the lowest point? just throwing this out there for opinions
Great job you guys are doing!
looking forward to more of your Pict's I have made some progress and new findings on my project and will post some Pict's soon!

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

GB I posted my comments on your thread and I'm glad the pics gave you some ideas!
Instead of using pl to bond the wood I put csm and resin between them for the glue :)

Nemo drain/limber holes are a good idea so water cant sit along your stringers and bulks leading to what we are all doing now....if only the manufacture would have done that and better glass work....but that takes time and hurts their profits....
When you do your holes keep them low and build up some mat and resin in front of them to make a ramp so the water flows out easily.
Thanks for the thumbs up on the work :D
