I usually have more trouble taking mine off than putting it back on. I rock mine back and forth (side to side) and it gradually slides off the studs. You can also use the trim rams to "break" it free.

the outdrive is broken free but won't come out, i have pried it as much as i dare, i put trim cylinders back on and tried pushing it out with that , but it still won't come off, i get it out about 1 1/2 inches but if you take off the pressure it pulls riht back it, motor in boat is siezed so i cant turn motor, at a loss as to what to try next

PRY.
Big pry bar and lift drive.Put bar under the front of the drive and drop it and maybe the drive will work it's way back?
If that won't work??Then inside the boat.Loosen the bellhousing. Then try to get at the coupler bolts/nuts.
Or take it to the shop for a little help.
It sounds like it's stuck on the o-rings on the shaft.?

Keep in mind the surfaces that you will be prying against are the same surfaces that have to be sealed watertight with a thin gasket. So, if you gouge the surfaces bad enough you will have problems.

Re: 88 omc outdrive

finally got drive out tonight shaft was rusted to drive coupling, no grease at all on splines, had to push out with trim cylinders and made wooden shims kept putting in more shims as i could and prying on top. after i got it out found round spring from gimble bearing seal on input shaft so now i guess i will have to change that as well. at least its out , now tomorrow i can pull engine.
