The thermo's Cup and Seat should be hard plastic, baquelite or whatever its made from and with heat will definitely deform. Need to change both the Cup Valve Seat and the Seat Valve, both under $ 13.00. Once done report if the issue was solved.

Happy Boating

Must not have worked on many Johnrudes Sea.......the seat is rubber an the cup is S/S. Just take a pick and roll the old one out and lube up the new one, pinch into a oval and insert and work back into place. If you remove the whole thing the the cup can be a bear to reinstall as angle and driver diameter has to be perfectly inline to drive home.

there was a service bulletin about this very scenario. the original seat had a metal rim, the newer ones i thought didn't, or i might have that backwards but it was an issue until they came out with the newer one. did one last summer but can't recall exactly. just bringing it to your attention.

Aware of the bulletin(below)..being a salty motor it is best to just replace seat as the surrounding aluminum may be degraded and wont hold the new seal. I have actually had more problems with new seal staying seated level than problems with old style.,especially in V-6's

thats it. yea getting that metal one out was a real project. these motors run warm at a slow idle, like lots of them. i guess thats why the manual says to measure head temps around 800 rpm to get some water up there

yes. i've had to use a seal puller . some can be really really hard to get out. just careful not to damage the surface and use gasket sealer around new one.

If the S/S seat is ok...just take a pick and roll rubber seal out and new one in.
