9.8 water pump impaller install: help

I checked key for impeller cant get key and impeller back on shaft.

Look at your implellar, some of them don't have the slot that goes from top to bottom.

My shaft has slot but pump body is at same height you can't put key in because impeller is there.
I will take to marina if no one knows.

I just did my 9.8 new impeller install yesterday... i had no issues.. and i can help.. but i dont know what your asking.. can you post a pic and explain in a little more depth what your needing help on.. i can help....

I do not know how to post a picture on this form,but maby if you could explain how it gos back together.I know it sounds silly I cant get the key in the slot when the impeller is in the pump housing maby you can tell me what I am missing.Thanks for the reply.

try putting key in first then impeller thats how mine went in

OK i think i know exactly what your talking about.. if your talking about that lil rectangle silver piece that sits on the side of the shaft and the impeller goes around it.. then i can help.. i kept trying to put the key on the shaft first and then slide the impeller over it and it would push it down and not let it go on... so i did this.. i put a lil grease on the shaft where the key sits.. and that helped with it sticking to it.. once i put a lil grease on there.. i slid the impeller down the shaft to where it is supposed to be.. then used a tiny screwdriver to push the key into place.. and viola!... set perfect.. if your still having issues.. tell me and ill email you my phone number and walk ya through it.. if ya need it..

Thanks I will try tomrow but how do you keep key on shaft? Mine is flat and has a little high spot not like a simple key or a half moon key.

Thank you!!!! I will let you know.I am not getting all the water out pee hole is what started all this I thinh I have A gasket bad water out exoust hole.

Ok... On the inside of the impeller there is an indent that the raised side of the keu sites in... Just make sure the impeller is turned to the proper side and it will fit in perfectly... Like I said.. I'd be happy to walk ya through it on the phone if yad like... Just say the word...
