9.9 johnson has spark on one only

I,m not sure what year this motor is but it,s a older model. The number I got off the block is J2908486. My problem is spark only on one side, I change the points,condenser and coil around but still no spark on the same side.I checked the plugs and wires too.can anybody help me?

there is no power pak if the engine is equipped with points and condensors. is there any other numbers on the engine? look on the transom bracket for a model number. did you replace both coils condensors and point sets? did you set the points to .020? did you replace the plug wires? if so did you use solid core plug wires? if not you could have a bad plug wire!!!!!

the model # is CD-25R.the plug wires checked out ok and coil, points, condenser and plugs also ok. the plate that these components sit does it come off? theres a key on the shaft anything else? also the spark that comes off that one side is white not blue.

CD-25 is a 6HP from 1968, not a 9.9HP as far as I can see in my chart.

White spark is a weak spark. Most likely the adjustment on the coil alignment is off, or the condensor is bad. Check out this thread to see if helps.

if you only have spark to one cylinder you either have a bad coil, a bad condensor or your points are not set correctly!
the model number you posted tells me that you have a 1968 6hp outboard. check this website if you want to lookup the model yourself http://www.maxrules.com/OMC_models_files/JOthru79/22-69.html and here is a good website to get your parts from http://www.shop.evinrude.com
