ok Roscoe. I'll try and post the progress.. It's still up in the air right now but. That personally to me is a better way. I'll have a newer motor, and it will be a outboard. Is it true and 90 hp outboard has more power then a 90 hp I/O.. It shouldn't be that bad due to my brother works with fiberglass everyday. Plus he knows people in the marine business as well. Where can you get prefabricated transoms from? The boat is a 18' Bayliner Capri Bowrider. I live in Burlington, Ontario..

Yes an outboard usually has a bit more power than the equivalent HP I/O. Make sure you're careful when you dismantle your L-drive. You MAY be able to make some money on the parts via ebay, etc.

I'm looking at a 88 Johnson 140hp and a 89 Johnson 115hp .. Are these good motors and are there still parts out there to fix these puppies?

ok so there are allot of parts to get then.. What would be better a 88 115hp Johnson or a 82 115hp Merc (6cylinders)? both have great compression and run great..? Just the Johnson motor has a huge cowl and the Merc has a samll one? Does this mean anything or no?

The Johnson is a more "bulletproof" engine, and a very reliable V4 design.

Yes you can hang it on the transom he builds and glasses in for you.

Just thought it would be easier to have a partially constructed transom that he could just attach and glass in. Then I saw the price. !

So the Merc isn't that good.. I heard they're easy to get parts for and easy to fix? Is that true about the 82 115hp Merc? When installing the motor, how much should the shaft of the motor be in the water or does it matter??

Nothing wrong with the Merc. The Johnson would just be my preference.

The large horizontal plate, just above the propeller, should be 1 inch above the lowest part of the hull. See the lower red line in the photo below.

iboats photo restrictions are too small. What most of us do is upload out photos to a free picture hosting site like photobucket.com. You can just link to them from here.
