Continuous horn = overheat

Continuous short beeps = no oil

Short beeps every 20 to 40 seconds = low oil

Some motors have been set up with vacuum switch for fuel obstruction alarm; that will also sound a continuous horn alarm if so equipped.

Re: 90 johnson engine alarm

it was a constant sound much like a fire alarm.... but i shut it down right away took hood off and nothing seemed hot?? But it did fire back up after 15mins or so. I trolled with it for a few hours at 3mph is that too slow for the motor? would that cause it to overheat?

Re: 90 johnson engine alarm

It probably shut down from overheating and binding. You should do the following:

1. Check compression,
2. Service your waterpump
3. Service your thermostats
4. Check your sparkplugs for signs of water intrusion.
