Re: '93 Sea Ray 200-BR rebuild (stringers/floor/engine)

The project is looking good. I will keep watching your progress.

I hope your not too flooded or have too many emergency calls with the 8"+ inches of rain you guys got yesterday.

I have friends in West Columbia right on the San Bernard. They sent me picts of the rain and flooding.

-Duane.

I grew up in West Columbia and my parents still live there. Where in WC do your freinds live. Who knows, I may know them. As a kid ('80's) I pretty much lived on the San Bernard water skiing. I talked to my dad today, and he told me that WC was pretty much under water right now. You can blame TXDOT for that. They replaced the existing road a few years ago and lowered the elevation about 18" or so. Guess what, the first big rain they had and the street flooded. Thanks, Steven

Nice job so far... I am getting ready to start the same process with a 1989 Sea Ray 180. Please continue to take and post as many pictures and helpful hints for those of us who are following in your footsteps.

I am trying to get a good set of pictures as I go along with the rebuild. I am kinda in limbo right now due to the non stop rain the past 2 weeks. I went out to work on it yesterday and it started raining 5 minutes into it. I am sitting here at the puter this morning and it is falling a flood. I still need to get the rest of the engine stuff off of the boat so I can start replacing the transom. At some point, you will probably pass me up on your rebuild and I will be asking you questions (lol). Thanks, Steven

This rain in July is not right. When we are not rebuilding a boat it's hot and sunny. Now that we have projects rain, rain, and more rain. I am just up the street in Bryan and we have not got as much as you in rain. Working in the driveway sucks! At some point it will return to normal Texas summer weather.......120 degrees and 87% humidity and we can get back to work.

Yeppers, I was trying not to think about that. Not only do we have the heat and humidity, but right now mosquito's will just about pack you away if you are outside. I do have the option of hooking up and taking it to the fire station and using one of the engine bays but evwn that is almost unbareible with the humidity. I am in no hurry, I'll get to it whan I can. Thanks, Steven

Interesting project you have there. Nice job so far.
I"m doing the same on a 76 Sea Ray Seville.....Mine was run a couple of weeks ago as well....yeh right! Although the motor was actually in pretty good shape and the transom seems to be sound except for one small part near the swim platform.
We're cutting the floor out now. My interior upholstery is totally trashed.
I have a book I"ve quoted else where which is extremely valuable called "Runabout Renovation" by Jim Anderson. Got mine of Amazon for I believe $14.00. Excellent book, well worth the price. Along with the info from this site the rebuild of mine is going very well.
Anderson recommends using AC plywood to replace the floor. He has several reasons and I have chosen to do this.
I'm going to be taking some pictures in the next couple of days and posting them.

Unlike you mine is only a 232 hp six cylinder with Cobra stern drive instead of that big V8. But for $800.00 including trailer, I can't complain as it's good enough for the lakes here in East Texas. I live about 28 miles NW of Tyler.

Incidently, if you don't mind the question, how much did you pay for your SeaRay?

Good luck with the rest of the rebuild and keep the pictures coming. We are all enjoying the progress and the result will be well worth the effort.

Cheers.
Glenn.

Re: '93 Sea Ray 200-BR rebuild (stringers/floor/engine)

Thanks for the comments Glenn. I'll have to see if I can find that book because I need all the help I can get. As for the price, I paid $1500.00 for boat, motor, and trailer. I believe that I could easily get my money back if I was to part it out. I was in the Tyler area a few months ago with my 8 year old son. There was a father/son weekend at Pine Cove that we went to. When I get the boat up and running, I will definately have to make a trip the Lake Palestine. Heck, I wouldn't mind making another trip to Lake Fork either. Thanks, Steven

Hey Steve that drive is worth $1200 alone, nice hull too...she'll look awsome on the water, keep yer chin up and your rubber gloves on (fiberglass work) the stringers and floor will go pretty quick if you have the time....and $$ the interior is the expensive part...upholstery etc...some new jump seats might make it more afforadable...reupholstering em can be pricey.

Wishing only the best for you and your family! Get her back in the water and youll have a boat to be prouod of! make sure to print up a before and after book when your'e done so you can show off your labors at the beach! ROCK ON!

ps we used quality loop carpet in our boat and its holding up well (it was house carpet)

Glad your motor is up and running! you are already 50% there and you dont even know it...keep on keeping on! :D

GREAT SCORE on the price. Shows that there are some great deals out there is one is a bit patient. Getting it for a good price and bringing it back to life is the best of both worlds.

Looking forward to more pictures.

If you're up in our area again drop by for a bubbly or something else. I would love to see your boat when you're done.
I live about 6 miles from Lake Fork by the way so I can't wait until mine is finished. Have a ways to go for that yet though.

We were in and out of Houston yesterday. Picked up a Korgi puppy to replace our old Aussie shephard that passed on a few months ago.

Cheers.
Glenn.

Re: '93 Sea Ray 200-BR rebuild (stringers/floor/engine)

It's lookin better with all the rot outta there. I'm still workin on mine. Here's the thing... I'm not through working on my Invader Bravo, but I came across a deal I couldn't pass up. Today I brought home a '69 Wellcraft 18' closed bow. Has a 160 mercruiser that "ran a couple years ago". Yeah right... anyway, I like the lines of the old girl, and the now previous owner said he would take $100 for it. I figured the trailer is worth that much and he also threw in a older alpha drive just to get it outta his way. Tomorrow I'll survey the damage and find the rot, cause I know its there somewhere. Good luck on your Sea Ray....

Re: '93 Sea Ray 200-BR rebuild (stringers/floor/engine)

Stampeder,
I have a friend (retired co-worker) that owns the "Burning Stump Lodge" on Lake Fork. I have been there once in mid '90's when the lake was really low. We had to litterally sight cast them on the beds. Fishing was a little tough. Sorry to hear about your dog. They are like family. We had to put both of our Poodles (17 & 18) down last Sept. They were blind and deaf and their quallity of life was going downhill. We bought a Maltese last January and she is a grooming nightmare. Other than that she is a sweet dog.

bear_69cuda,
The Road Runner is pretty much a stock 383 with a 727 auto. It has a set of forged flattop pistons and a Comp XE-268-H cam with roller rockers. Other than that, it's bone stock. I need to drive it and give it a little more TLC. I went to take it for a spin yesterday and the battery was dead. It could also use a good cleaning. It has been over 2 years since I have been to a car show with it. The show I made was the Mopar Nats in Houston back in '08. Managed to pull out a third place in the stock class.

friscoboater,
Had I thought about it, I would have shot you a PM that we were in Arlington this past week. Maybe we could have got together. We spent a few days at Six Flags Over Texas and a day a Hurricane Harbor. If you have not had a chance to ride the "Titan" at Six Flags, you need to give it shot. That is a awesome roller coaster. My 8 year old son and I rode it 3 times back to back. That 25 story drop at 85 mph is tuff and then the cork screw that tries to pull the blood down to your feet. Almost need a G suit (lol) to ride it. Mr. Freeze was pretty good also, but I liked the Titan better.

Well, work on the Sea Ray has been non existant lately. On vacation last week and rain in the forecast next week. I am off until 7/30 so maybe I can find a little time to work on it. Thanks, Steven

I have ridden the Titan and it messed me up for life. As much as I love roller coasters, I cannot ride them any more. I get sick, and a HUGE migraine.

How are things coming with the resto?
With the nice cool weather we have been having in Texas you should have gotten absolutely nowhere, unless you have a large majorally air conditioned shop.......hee hee hee.:p
Since I found out that a frost plug is gone in the rear of my motor, I've stopped work on mine until we get cooler weather and I can pop the motor out. Thing is that it runs fine and I've replaced frost plugs in the past so it's no big deal, just another pain in the butt that I had not counted on.:D

Cheers.

Glenn,

You are absolutly correct on your observation. I have made a few attempts to work on it, but the heat and humidity here on the Texas coast are just unbareable and pretty much nothing has been done. Fall is just around the corner and the kids go back to school on the 23rd, so I should have a lot more time in the near future. It seems right now, that when I am off we (family) are out and about doing something. I have next weekend off and we are going to try and go to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. I am not looking forward to the heat wave inside the hole that Fiesta Texas is built in. I think a hurricane could be blowing over that place and just a small breeze would go in the park. My 8 year old son is a roller coaster riding machine. He refuses to ride one unless he can ride in the back car. I taught him well :D. I am trying to figure out how to talk my wife into going to Ohio for vacation so we can visit Cedar Point and Kings Island. I wanna ride the Top Thrill Dragster. Her and my daughter are not much on roller coasters. Anyway, I'll stop rambling. Progress should pick back up soon. Thanks, Steven

I used to think amusement park rides were thrilling until I got to ride in the front seat of a Bell Jet Ranger Long in Maui. We went from sea level (well about 10 feet above) to over 12,000 feet around the old valcano on the west part of the island. Our pilot was ex-Vietnam vet, incredibly skilled. I was with a radio station broadcasting from there at the time so he gave us the "full meal deal". It was such a ride that no amusement park can even come close. My step-son is a helicopter pilot as well. When I need my thrill fix well.....you know the rest.

What's Fiesta Texas. We're fairly new here and still learning.

Thanks.
Glenn.

Fiesta Texas is a six Flags amusment park in San Antonio. It was built inside of an old rock quary and needless to say, there is not a lot of wind in the hole. Thanks, Steven
