Re: 94 Cherokee towing capacity...
I sold my 94 Cherokee 4WD, 4.0L, 4 speed auto a few months ago. Factory ratings with the tow package (auxiliary trans cooler, full size spare, 3.73 rear end) were 3500 lbs with a standard hitch, 5000 lbs with a weight-distributing hitch.
Do a little research, you'll find that Cherokee's have HORRIBLE rear brakes. Mine lived up to their reputation. They aren't bad stopping just the car, but any weight on the rear overloads them and it'll take you much further to stop than you'd like. I towed my 1997 Bayliner 1850 with mine for 7 years, but I only tow a couple of miles on residential roads to the launch. Try a few panic stops on an empty road with your trailer BEFORE you go out in traffic so you'll know what kind of stopping distance you'll need. People do all kinds of shenanigans with the rear proportioning valve, switching to rear disks, etc, trying to get them to stop.
