94 E120TLERC Fuel Pump Inlet

Went out yesterday and took a bit to get her started once started I made it about 30ft out of the slip when she stalled. I was able to get her started again and she quickly died again. After a long period of not starting I was able to get her going one last time and I had her at a fast idle for about 30sec before she died again....like she was not getting fuel...Noticed the bulb was not holding prime.

So I started to take apart the fuel line to make sure the engine was getting fuel. Upon trying to remove the main fuel line the inlet to the fuel pump came off /broke?.... There was a gasket under it that had a passage all the way around the edge except for one spot where it was just a hole. It didn'tt really appear to be broken off but when I tried to reinstall and pump the bulb fuel just spilled out around the fitting.

Obviously I have to fix the fuel pump main inlet before I can troubleshoot the main issue. Does the pump inlet simpley snap in? is it glued? should I just replace the outer cover or rebuild the pump?

That was welded in there.

It is plastic! So no chance of getting it back on? Possible just to replace that portion of the pump?

Plastic is welded all the time. You could try a good epoxy like marine-tex and get rid of the hose clamp those can break the nipple off. Or you need to replace the pump it is not serviceable.

Ouch! New pump is like $500. At that price I will have to try epoxy first. Any advice...I am guessing I should remove pump...repair and then reinstall.

Be careful not to get epoxy in the pump and make sure it seals tight.

Have read I can use regular pump and then premix. What pump would I use? Is this just a bolt on project?

I think I will give Marine Tex a try and if that does not work remove VRO and go with plain pump and premix....$500 for a new pump is crazy!

Pretty sure that motor never came with a standard pump it was always a VRO. I am not sure there is a replacement pump for the looper motor.

I am going to remove the pump when I get a free moment and try epoxy.... I plan on a very small amount around the collar to get a seal on the inside and then once somewhat dry putting some around the outside. What if epoxy makes it into pump besides pump damage? Clogged carb?

If that does not work and fuel still leaks I plan on switching to basic pump and premix.....Not my favorite option. pumps here: http://www.maxrules.com/fixomc-no-oil-vro.php

On second thought after reading some other thread on various sights...it sounds like this could be a major fire/explosion hazard if it fails while running....which makes sense that would be a lot of fuel under the cowling....Not sure it is worth the risk of epoxy...although some have had success...one guy actually used a fiberglass repair kit to join the two together.
