I have a 1994 90 horse johnson that died on me on the lake last week. It sounded like it was missing real bad and was really viberating before I shut her down. I took it to the mechanic and he checked the compression and all the cylinders are good. He thinks it may be a bad lower main bearing. He is going to tear it down in a day or so and find out for sure.
The questions:

-What might cause this to happen?
-Is there anything else that I should look at replacing while the engine is torn apart?
-Is this a sign of a motor that is on its last legs?
-Any other words of wisdom (encouraging or not) that you may have to share??

Thanks
