looking for Don S caught some usefull info from Searay steves post on idle. My so called manual is a 1995-1997 Clymers stern drive shop manual B744 (NO REVISION) which the local Merc dealer assured me would help me solve all my problems and is the manual they swear to!!!!!!.But anyway after setting base timming @ 1 degree BTDC with the rpm @ 2,600 rpm the advance should be 25 to 29 degrees accoring to this manual. this link info you sent me is advance @23degrees @2800 rpm has never occurred but has been substatially higher like off the timming advance grid around the harmonic balancer but the engine runs ok to some extent but I definetly do not want to go through the dissapointment this comming summer as I did last summer. if you beleive I have missed something please jump on this post.
