1995 Volvo Penta Model: 5.0FL PHUE

So I want to replace the thermostat on our motor and I am curious if others have replaced this one as it looks like it may be a mess to get it out (see attached photos). I am wondering if I need to buy this whole new housing as well.

Thanks for your feedback.

It doesn't look too bad, remove the oring, remove the stat, clean the gasket surface install new stat and oring and put it back together. Should be fine.

I forgot to ask, is the thermostat a Volvo specific part I need to replace or is this a Ford thermostat that goes with the 302 ford? I have discovered finding parts not always that easy for my specific model and year of motor.

Old thermostat removed and, it was much easier to remove than I thought it would be. Thanks again Don, your quick reply gave me the confidence I needed to just get in there.

Im trying to do the exact same thing. Is there any tricks to removing the old stat? Mine seems to be stuck. I also have a 95 volvo 5.0. Thanks, Rob.
