I was wondering what is the max rpms a 125hp 1996 Mariner should be set at when at WOT? It pushes a 19' Angler 1,600 pounds or so...

your 125 h.p has a rev- limiter. the rev- limiter is set at 5250 r.p.m s. this rev- limiter is used to prevent upper crank shaft failures. try to prop-out the motor at 5100+-100 rpm at w.o.t and trimerd out. you should try to run the motor "in the rev. limiter" (5250-rpm) as little as posible. good luck!

Trimered out? Sorry, Im new at this!

And I will have to do some serious adjustment then because when I took the boat out with the previous owner before I purchased it it was WOT'ing around 7,000 rpm!...

"trimed out" is when you trim-up the motor after you get on plane. doing this can some times improve top speed and handling. i bet your tac. is not set /reading correctly or you are under proped and the rev-limiter is disconnected.

Oh ok, I'm still working on repairing my trim as this thread shows http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?p=1987293#post1987293

I took it out yesterday. It was 4 people (normal weight) and 3/4 of a tank of fuel which I think has around 37 gallons or so.

At 6,000 RPM's speed was between 21.8-22.2 Knots. Does that sound right? That should be about 25 mph correct?

I will get the prop pitch reading and post back.
