I have posted many times about my 225 but after the powerhead change 2 years ago the lower gearcase ran dry like my relationship with the girl that had the truck to tow it.. Replaced the gearcase last week but when I did I missed the water pickup and torqued it down.. Overheated for sure but we only went 100yds at low idle thrust.. Engine shut down and wouldnt fire back up.. I sprinkled ( NOT soaked the engine with a garden hose to try to cool it off) and we pulled the gearcase off dockside and made sure the water pickup lined up.. Idles fine now with a great pee out the back and still have 100/1 oil gas/mix from original break-in 2 years ago so it stayed lubed but got really hot.. Now it does fine slow idle and high idle cruise but after 2k/3k RPMS it has a random BANG BANG BANG and thens runs great for 30 seconds and the BANG BANG BANG comes back.. I was told water in the fuel makes the engine do that.. I disconnected a lot of wires/plugs and hit them with an air compressor, made it run a lot better but still has that random BANG.. It's not a misfire (I guess it is to some extent) but I'm at a loss here.. In-line fuel filter is dark (I assume 100-1) mix still in there and maybe a crapped out fuel/water separator??

I guess my question after this whole dissertation Is, what is cause the loud BANGS while under way??

Thanks again for all the help over the years..

And why would you run with 100:1 mix , please explain.------The banging could be because it is jumping out of gear.----Did you set the proper shift rod height ??

I normally run a 50:1 mix but with the new ramanned powehead I was told to double the oil during the first 10 hours of the break-in cycle.. I only made it through 7 hours of break-in before the gearcase scrapped out.. Couldn't get forward and reverse gear at the same time.. I could adjust for one or the other but not both.. So I put a new gearcase on and now it seems to shift ok, still couldn't get reverse so the Cabelas Master mechanic told me to drop it and adjust the shaft up 2 turns.. It shifted just fine the first night and ran 45knts wide open, it was only after the overheat and spraying it down that the banging started.. Was really constant and loud until I disconnected a bunch of wires and hit them with compressed air and blew them out.. Runs a lot better now but still has the massive BANG and the engine jumps like its run aground.. Didn't do that the first night, but also the shift rod was adjusted before I twisted it up 2 turns.. When I first put the gearcase on, much like the old gearcase, the trunion adjustment screw is all the way forward to make it work (after market cables and shifter) but it worked great for 2 years..

Really----!00:1 is NOT DOUBLING the oil in the mix.------Your math skills are off a bit.
