Ok I pulled the head off the left side since that is the side where I found rust on the spark plug. The lower piston was extended all the way out. There was some rust and crud on the top of the lower piston and a little rust around the cylendar. Most of it wiped right off with an oily rag. Since the piston is all the way out there is only about 1/4 inch of cylendar wall exposed so it is kind of hard to tell.
The top cylendar was back part way through the exhaust ports. It was fairly clean except for a pile of loose crud around the lower exhaust port. Probably just crud washed out of the exhaust by the PB Blaster and Mystery oil I had poured in it.
I tapped the lower piston a couple of times with a hammer and block of wood but it didn't move. I'm still not ready to give up on this thing yet. Unless the inner part of the motor is rusted nothing I have seen so far looks too bad. It all apears to be surface rust, nothing pitted that I can see. I think I will blow it out real good with my air compresser and then keep spraying it down with oil for a couple of days. I read a couple of threads about a 50/50 mixture of ATF & Acetone, anybody know about that? Is this concauction any better or worse than PB Blaster or Marvel Mystery oil?
