I have recently rebuilt my '98 90 degree looper motor. I rebuilt all 6 carbs as well. I have new plugs and everything seems to be in order. I have fuel, spark, and compression. I also set the WOT timing and its dead on. Link and sync has been done as well. The absolute max RPM i am getting is 4400. I have a 24 wellcraft w/a with a 21 pitch prop. I know that a 17-19 pitch will get me a few more rpm but before i rebuilt the thing it ran over 5000 all day and never sputtered or anything.
It starts and idles fine. Then once it warms up it just starts running worse. I try to put it in gear and go but it hesitates and stalls. I can nurse it with the choke to get it going. It is slow out of the hole and eventually will plane off but it isn't running right.
It seems that even though it requires the choke to get running it also is getting too much fuel at top end because it is coming out the throats. My air box has fuel in it as well. I have heard it could be a reed but I pulled apart the whole intake and the reeds/gaskets are fine. I am not seeing any air leaks.
Yesterday I had it out and ran it hard for a while and pulled the cowl off to find all 6 carbs full of condensation and ice cold. Like refrigeration was happening.
It is bored .20 over and i read that it may need to be rejetted. I have also read that it doesn't.
I have read these forums for hours and they haven't been able to answer my question. I have tried to be as concise as possible,
I am at a loss and any help would be greatly appreciated!
