yea. west marine didnt go for that one. I also had a printout for a siera one, but they claimed the company doesnt have a storefront and is online only so they wouldnt match that one either.

Take it to a local electric motor re-build shop and see if they can replace the nose cone usually they can re-build for a fraction of the cost of a replacement and quality is just as good if not better.

Doesn't need a nose cone, bendix and solenoid for sure. Still cheaper than new. Careful with DB elect. They do buy and re-sell the cheapest of the cheap off shore junk.

i went ahead and ordered the siera. i found it for ~$135. Apparently the guy that is going to help me with the repairs, knows the boat, and the shop the previous owner used. That starter was replaced last year.

I guess it got salt water inside it and i didnt know it. He is going to take it and see if they will honor their 1yr warranty. If not ill get it rebuilt and be ready for the next time.

NOBODY warrants starters against saltwater corrosion and abuse, nobody.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Chances are there was salt water in the bilge that got into the starter and ruined it. Make sure your bilge stays dry is prevent future headaches.

The funny thing about this is that in your effort to avoid a cheap but fine working starter from DB Electrical, you opted to pay over twice as much for just a different cheap but fine working starter from someone else.. :p

that may well be. but i see a lot of sierra stuff on the market, where db electrical not so much. Ive also read many reviews about them and more the half were total failures. Not just on this starter but others for other vehicles. I understand you have great luck with them, but i just couldnt make myself go that cheap.
