Im being told they are no longer available. Is there any after market gasket supplier available? The part numbers are 0317398(plate to manifold) and 0317396(plate to cylinder) Any suggsetions welcomed. Can I make a gasket with gasket maker or would that be impossible. Pretty complex gaskets....both are pretty gooey and broken down. I pulled them because it was spraying gas out the bottom of the intake..Thank you.

Those don't look like they would be overly difficult to make...

I would buy some black (felt type) gasket material from an auto parts store, and use either the parts themselves (or the old gaskets if possible) as a template.

typically you can use a single hole paper punch to make the holes for the bolts, and the rest you trace with a fine point felt tip marker, and cut out with a razor knife or xacto.

Try these folks:

www.sea-way.com/

They have a form you can enter the parts number in. They have lots of obsolete Evinrude parts. Who knows?

BRP seems to be determined to get those motors out of existance. They are obsoleting most all of the needed parts.

Betcha sea-way has them.

Yah, I'm thinking BRP wishes those fat lowboys had never been made. Few shared parts with other models and so on.

Re: 9r73b Intake gaskets needed-anyone???

Thanks for the help. Luckily I found a parts motor for it, its a little different but all the major parts are the same. I ended up making a gasket out a piece left over from a holley carb kit. It ended the leak, didnt think it would take much seeing the whole corner of the gasket on the bottom around one the screen holes was completely gone. From the looks of it under there, it had been leaking for a while. Now to figure out why Im getting surges at low idle speed, almost like cough that make it stall out unless I put the rev up a bit more...I have rebuilt the carb and it runs really good at all other rpms, just when I want it idle really low after it warms up. Points maybe? Thanks again...

Those 9? motors had fixed high speed & adjustable low speed jets on the carburetor; have you tried fine tuning the low speed adjustment to see if you can have any effect on the low speed "cough" ?

I would also try to see if the cough still happens while trolling with the cowling removed. Others mentioned those turtleback motors having numerous parts unique unto themselves. In particular those motors used rubber bellows in the midsection. Of course those bellows are NLA. If your bellows are ripped, cracked or otherwise not airtight they will allows exhaust fumes to be drawn up the leg at idle and mess up the running. Remember that at close range those exhaust fumes already have the oxygen depleted from combustion and therefore the fumes will not support more combustion if your motor tries to breathe it in, hence the low speed running problems. So try running the motor at idle with the lid off and see if the problem goes away.

A lot of people think that those motors are ugly, but personally I have used numerous 9? motors over the years and found them to be marvelous motors for fishing. They have numerous features not found on other motors, are convenient, compact, lightweight (60 lbs.), well balanced and easy to carry. I am a fan if you haven't guessed by now. Dad bought one new in 1965 and used it into the 1990s until he broke his pelvis falling from the roof of the house onto the gunwale of his Nalco cartop boat, damaging the boat and thus making him use other boats & motors he had. He gave his 9? to a generous hunting & fishing buddy and as far as I know it is still going strong (it has a LOT of hours on it).

Also, any idea what I should be retightening the flywheel bolt to on this motor? I assume that it needs to be specific...Thanks again. I dont know what I'd do without this website sometimes

Re: 9r73b Intake gaskets needed-anyone???

Thanks Tn-25. I am a fan of these as well, although I dont know all that much about them, yet. I have tried to adjusting the lean/rich, as well as the slow speed adjustment on the tiller handle, I guess I should reset them to a good starting place and go from there...Any idea where these should be at under normal operation. It was clear that the guy who owned this before me was even more clueless than I and I think these two adjustments are way off...Any more thoughts? I really want to go fishing, the smelt are running again and the salmon are going crazy!! Thanks.

The slow speed needle should be about 1 1/2 turns open as a beginning point. Adjust for best idle from there.

The knob on the tiller is an idle SPEED adjuster. It merely limits how far you can turn the twist grip toward the "slow" position. Handy for presetting a trolling speed.

Flywheel nut torque is 40-45 foot pounds.
