True. If that idiot didn't try to outrun the cops, this wouldn't have happened.

The passenger was just that - a passenger. The driver is the person who ran from the police. The passenger is not a LT but a Senior Airman who had recently returned from duty in Iraq. His job in the Air Force is as a Security Forces Specialist (otherwise known as a policeman). As an AF Police instructor he went thru my academy class as a young airman going thru tech school. Sorry but I couldn't tell you anything about him as I saw over 5000 kids come thru the academy each year. I have watched the video and agree it is not a good copy and as a career law enforcement officer I know things are not always as they seem. However if the video shows what really happened out there then the officer should be sent to prison for attempted murder. Just my two cents.

It was strange, the cop was yelling (in my opinion) "GET UP, SHUT UP, GET UP, SHUT UP"... almost like he was meaning to yell "GET DOWN"?

And, the airman appeared to be very concerned with telling the cop he was an airman.

*****

It looks like the cop was tying to tell him to get down and shut up, but the airman (who was partially raised up on a elbow) said "I'm gonna get up" and he went to get up quickly and the officer shot.

That's what it looks like to me.

It still doesn't make sense to me - we tell people to get on the ground and secure them there. KRS may be right - he may have said "get up" when he meant to say "get down". You'd think the passenger would have been confused by orders to get up too - being a cop in the military himself. Either way, that's not the moment to detail your resume - shut up, comply, and explain later.

Wait and see - remember that the video shows what can be seen and heard (poorly at that) from a single stationary perspective and keep in mind that they aren't showing us the whole video, just the "juicy" part. There are at least two sides to every story and right now we're not hearing either, just what speculation can be pieced together from the video.

Let's not make the mistake of taking what the news media presents as the whole story. They're in the business of generating interest in their coverage and they often do so by offering the most sensational version that can be defended, not pure unbiased facts. I'm not saying this is the case in this story, but a grain of salt is always good advice.
