A Crestliner Question

Ok so the storey is. I hooked upto the boat last September to go to the cabin with the 14YO boy and his friend.

1998 Crestliner Fish Hawk 1750, with a 130 Yamaha.

It had been 3 weeks since I used the boat. The same ritual, back the truck down the same loading ramp. Fire up the boat, drive it to the trailer, winch it on, hook the safety chain to the boat, Lift the motor and set the tilt lock, open the plug, and drive home.

So this weekend I hooked up the trailer, checked the lights, loaded the boat with cabin stuff and left the driveway. The first stop 1 block away, when I left the stop sign, bang the boat slide off of the roller trailer, and onto the ground. Someone had unhooked the winch and safety chain.

Thankfully the motor was all the way up and didn't get hurt. but the back of the boat's V was bent. I loaded it back on the trailer, and was handed a $175 fine for insecure load, by the local Police.

I took the boat home and pounded the keel out to where the plug would screw back in. And went back to getting to the cabin.

Parked at the dock for no more than 30 minutes, my son noticed that water was above the floor boards. So we beached the boat for the night, and pumped it out before going home in the morning.

Brought the boat home and looked closer at my problems.

The Airorator is cracked and letting water in. I have tried to unhook the hose through the little access panel in the motor well. Small dark and tight hoses.

So my question is. What size are the through hule fittings on a 1750 Fish Hawk?

I am looking at bypassing the livewell all togeather because I never use it. The boat is used more as a frieghter than a fisher. So I just want to buy 2 new threw Hule fittings and loop a hose to each of them. Intake to Output.

I think they are 1" but I want to be sure before I purchase some.

Sorry , I don't have an immediate answer for you.
I had a question about an older crestliner and contacted them though email. They emailed me back, plus sent a brosure in the mail.
I'm pretty sure those fittings are universal and if not someone should chime in to answer your question.

Why not take one out and take it to your marine supply store and get another one. Or you can take the hose or piece of the hose and get one that fits. Most of the thru hull fittings I have seen are either one size or a bigger size not to be mistaken for the small one.

Re: A Crestliner Question

Typical bilge/aerator pumps outlet and hoses rigged on that size boats are 3/4" ID (1" OD).

Even if you don't use it for fishing, it's still a fishing boat, and a nice one BTW, so unless you plan to keep it forever, I wouldn't bypass the livewell cause a non-functional one will be a turn-off for a potential buyer.

Over time, those hoses dried and get stuck pretty hard. I found that heating them with a heat gun then wiggling/twisting/pulling with channel-lock pliers help a lot to remove them.

As for the thru-hull fitting, it's screwed from the inside with a plastic nut usually bedded in 4200/5200 and, being in a very tight space, they may be hard to unscrew. You'll need some vice-grip pliers and/or a plumber's wrench.

Hope this help.

Re: A Crestliner Question

thanks for the input! Yes I should replace the Areorator, but the ends of the thru hule fittings were so tight in the hoses and the 8" access hole so small to work on them last fall, I gave up and was trying to find an easier way.
