I'm 57 and am active and never have health problems. Lots of people, especially my wife has commented on how I very rarely even get a cold. Until this past weekend.
Have you ever had Chicken Pox? Are you nearing 60? If so you have a high risk of contracting Shingles as I found out over the weekend. I'll confess, I had no real idea what Shigles was or what caused it but it is caused by the dormant virus that caused my childhood chicken pox and no one is really certain what triggers it to re-activate in the human body. (There is some evidence that says lots of sun light is one of the major triggers, that sort of sucks for a boater.)
Saturday morning I had 3 or 4 red spots of a light rash, Sunday it had expanded to cover an area from my navel to my back bone, from my hip to my rib cage on my right side. This morning I was covered in tiny blisters and weeping sores. Yeah, it was that fast.
Shingles travels along a root nerve and then spreads out to the very tip of the nerve endings and its a whole new sort of pain. Somewhere between feeling like its on fire to itching so bad I want to grab the electric grinder! Trust me, you do not want anything to do with this and there is a vacine for it. (I didn't know about it.)
Doc's had me buy the pharmacy and I got meds upon meds in the hope of knocking it out quickly and avoiding the possible long term effects. Keeping my fingers crossed as I chug the meds down.
