I'm 57 and am active and never have health problems. Lots of people, especially my wife has commented on how I very rarely even get a cold. Until this past weekend.

Have you ever had Chicken Pox? Are you nearing 60? If so you have a high risk of contracting Shingles as I found out over the weekend. I'll confess, I had no real idea what Shigles was or what caused it but it is caused by the dormant virus that caused my childhood chicken pox and no one is really certain what triggers it to re-activate in the human body. (There is some evidence that says lots of sun light is one of the major triggers, that sort of sucks for a boater.)

Saturday morning I had 3 or 4 red spots of a light rash, Sunday it had expanded to cover an area from my navel to my back bone, from my hip to my rib cage on my right side. This morning I was covered in tiny blisters and weeping sores. Yeah, it was that fast.

Shingles travels along a root nerve and then spreads out to the very tip of the nerve endings and its a whole new sort of pain. Somewhere between feeling like its on fire to itching so bad I want to grab the electric grinder! Trust me, you do not want anything to do with this and there is a vacine for it. (I didn't know about it.)

Doc's had me buy the pharmacy and I got meds upon meds in the hope of knocking it out quickly and avoiding the possible long term effects. Keeping my fingers crossed as I chug the meds down.

Been there - it ain't fun! First outbreak of Shingles was 20 years ago but fortunately only had a couple of recurrences. I found calamine was about the best for the itch but even that doesn't 'cure' it.

I also have had them. I didn't mind the welps as much as the month long lethargy.

Not sure everyone has the weakness and body aches but it is an affect for some.

Hang in there, this too shall pass. Get to feeling better soon.

Yep, been there done that. Except mine was on my nose and face. My wife is a nurse, but being primarily in the OR, didn't know what I had gotten into. I went to a local medical group with a "quick clinic" and they thought I had an infection. It got worse, so we headed off to the ER. The doctor there was a bit perplexed. Luckily, another doctor just happened to pass by who knew my wife. He dropped in to chat a bit. He asked me what was wrong, and other than the nasty looking scabs on my face, I told him that my hair hurt.

He looked at the first doctor and asked him, "So what the diagnoses?" He thought an infection. "Nope!" Then he ask him "What about his hair hurting?" "Hmmm, Don't know." "He has shingles." The first doctor had never seen a case of shingles on the face.

The upshot about mine, is that as a result, I have extreme limited movement of my neck.

I've had them too and they are a real pain. I'm 45 and they aren't age related as explained to me. They are stress realted though. Generally, when you are under heavy stress and your immune system drops the chicken pox resurfaces.

A woman I work with got them when she turned 40, Got her in her eyes.
Pretty much blind in one eye now, with reoccurring outbreaks about once a year.
