And another design. Bicycle tire valve [schrader]- Tire pressure gauge, a t fitting from my old car, and part of my gear lube pump. Still need something to add pressure. I just use my air compressor.

There are several other options in the sticky's, for your consideration...

I basically ended up buying a Foot pump tire inflator for $5.99, then I used the hose and fitting from gear lube pump. I inserted a tire valve from old bicycle tire in the other end of the tubing and used hose clamps to keep air from escaping.

what did ya use for a gauge? just the one on the pump ? Got a pic ?

Yeah the pump has a gauge on it. In the picture there is an adaptor attached with chain to air up floats and stuff like that just ignore, it is really not part of the pressure tester. The tire valve is pressed into the tubing with a hose clamp over it then you can see the other end that connects to the lower unit vent hole(gray). I do plan to try and add some type of plastic washer or something else at the end of the part that goes to the vent hole so air cannot escape there. Here is picture if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Also, on the tire valve from bike tire I just cut all the plastic off around it so it would fit into tubing.

Kool. Have ya put it to the test yet ? I would be worried that the foot pump itself might have a tendency to leak. I am not trying to shoot down your design, BTW, I just dont know if that foot pump is made well enough to hold 15 lbs of pressure overnite. I think merc says it only has to hold for 10 min or something. IMHO thats not long enough. I like overnite-24 hrs even. But then, I tend to overdo stuff, just my nature.
I wanted to get the pump out of the design, as once again IMHO, I was afraid that might be a weak link. If it works, it works. Anytime I was losing pressure, or just doing a pressure check, I would spray soapy water on my test equipment, as well as drive components.. Nice work tho ! Good luck........

yeah I do need to test it. I think I will first test it on a tire that I know does not have leak to make sure the gauge holds up on the pump. Will let you know. I just threw it together on Sunday. Been so hot down here in the south with 100+ degree weather that it is hard to get anything done outside. I bet I could fry an egg on the fiberglass of my boat!!!


I saw a post somewhere do not remember now where a guy bought a gas test gauge at home depot and it has a tire valve built in at one end and then he uses a reducer to put connections on other end, the gas test gauge cost $9. If i find it again I will post a link to it for you. It was pretty neat.

Hey Paultjohnson,
I tested the pump and it works, no air escapes with the bike pump hose. It has been on a tire for 4 hours now and still holding same pressure. Will be using it this weekend to test lower unit for leak.
