tonight mrs oops and i had to tow a sea doo back from the lake...

it was involved in a collision.

an 18 year old male and his 11 year old sister were on a jet ski....the supercharged kind....

they left her body laying on the dock because the ambulance doesnt deal with that......the coroners do.

mrs oops and i were floating and enjoying the sunset.....taking pictures ...relaxing.......when we heard a collision on the water.
i fired up the motor and drove to the sound.......we were 700 yards away.......when we got on the scene......someone was in the bow of a bow rider boat....jumping on someones chest.....yelling "does someone know cpr".....and "call 911" i tried to pull beside the boat ....but the driver hit the throttle and took off to shore.

pulling along side......i shut the motor of a badily damaged jet ski......( i have seen damage....but this boat was wiped out bad !!!)

there were two jet skis floating in the water......one wiped...one not.....lots of flotation foam was on the water....lots of debris.....a sandal, and an empty life jacket.
i jumped in the water.....and collected the debris.......then towed one of the jet skis back to the dock......another boat that was there, towed the other.

when i got to the dock......the police and ambulance were there......the police wanted to take my statment......and took my girls camera .......she videoed the rescue.

the body of an 11 year old baby girl was lying on the dock.....with her parents wailing laying beside her.

i really dont know what to think right now.....i didnt see it......but i am under the impression that it was the driver of the jet ski that was at fault.....the brother.

.......parents....please ....please.......make sure your kids are driving responsibly....,jet skis.....boats....cars.....

a family will be one less tonight.

Re: A warning

That must have been traumatic for you two let alone for the families involved.

It's so sad and upsetting that these things happen because they are entirely preventable.
What a waste of life.

My thoughts are with you all.

Re: A warning

:( Damn, sorry you had to see that. Last year, I as returning from a day of island partying on the Potomac, was dropping a friend @ a Virginia park boat ramp. As I entered the pass behind Ten Foot island Icaught a orange flash, or something. I chopped throttle and flipped on my spotlight. 3 kyacks with no lights 50 yards dead ahead:eek:. YElled and a voice called back with my name. Was a friend out to late, didnot bring his lighted hat. Won't make that misstake again? Unpowered boats must be off the water before dark, no lights.;) I think you have to be 16 to operate a pwc here. Thanks for the warning, brought that night right back. Lights, everybody!

Safety (either in a boat, Jet ski, towable, swimming, ect.) Goes without saying. Any loss of life is terrible. opps!, sorry you had to witness that (wreck scenes involving death or severe loss are never a fun event), However I am glad you were there to help (and did alot of people would have bailed). I wish you and your family the best and hope you share your witness account with EVERYONE you can (as stated, it was preventable, and a tragic, senseless, loss of life and maybe via sharing with people it can save someone's in the future.......That poor family.

(btw, I have 15 years with a local rescue squad, I have seen scenes similar, never a fun thing, but like I said Thank you for "stepping up" and helping..... Belive it or not, picking up, towing in, giving accounts, helped that family and the workers out).

Wow, what a tragedy. I couldn't imagine having to go through that. I sure hope I am teaching my kids how to respect the water, boats and others so that I don't have to experience a moment like this.

Re: A warning

I hate to even go there, and Im sorry for all involved, tragic stuff, young life snuffed probably with no way to control her destiny, at the hands of others......but I have seen some stupid, unsafe, assinine stuff on the water with these PWCs and some hot rod boaters acting like jerks too, and lately actually. Strict rules about following boat wakes and high speed buzzing of others, but totally ignored. Just ignorant stuff.

Very sad story. My prayers go out to the family for their loss. I am sorry you had to witness this as well. I could just imagine how upset I would have been to see that.

Re: A warning

So very saddening!

I too have gone on rants in these forums over behaviors and water saftey and have received some very chilling comments about my thoughts and a few times have been told in person to mind my own business!

Well it's been a very long time sense I've shared this story and it still scares the life out of me.
When I was 14 I was coming home one afternoon on my bike when my baby brother came running up to me and yelled "Danny fell in the river!" Danny, my nephew was only 6 and my baby brother was only a few months older. I flew on my bike to the water and it took what seemed like forever until I located him floating face down about 50' out from the piers. When I got him back to the pier he was not breathing, no pulse and his lips were already purple! For all practile purposes he was dead. I cleared his mouth and began mouth-to-mouth to no avail. I carried him home as fast as I could yelling at my baby brother to run home for help. When I arrived home my mother and oldest sister, Danny's mother, were already in the yard. My baby brother had already had enough sense to run to the neighbors house who happened to be a Pediatrician and she arrived at the house a few minutes after I did. Thankfully after a long few minutes she was able to revive him. That was 43 years ago.

So yes I learned at a very young age how valueable life is and how quick and easily it can be taken away! The water is fun but w/o respect it will kill you!!!!

oops, I hope you and yours are OK! Everyone, please be safe.

Re: A warning

This is absolutely gut wrenching. I have two young teen PWC drivers, and an 11-year old itching to drive when he turns 13. I am making each of them read this post.
