Ok some of you may have this, is there any real benifit to it? Does it really save you money? I have seen discounts for lodging about $10 (EDIT) discount (/EDIT) a night.

AARP is a very left leaning organization. That's great if you lean left as well.

Re: AARP ?

Left or right leaning.... I joined, began to receive a mother lode of junk mail, cancelled my "subscription" and am just now seeing the mail taper off.

IMHO a rip-off organization w/o benefit.

What kind of flea-bag do you get for $10 a night? (snick)

They have some things that look and sound attractive. However, in the last several years their political activisim and in my opinion, outright deception of our senior population, has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I won't give them a dime of my money.

I wouldn't belong to any organization that would have me as a member but especially AARP. They are very left leaning and I'm not so I happily throw their propaganda away. :|

Be careful Txswinner, don't let that get around or someone may think you're coming over to the "right" side.

Re: AARP ?

AARP is pretty liberal when it comes to we oldsters and pretty conservative when something affects others.

I hate the junk mail.

But my card gets me a few hundred bux in discounts at good motels and restaurants every year. To me that's worth $12.50 a year.

My wife extolls the discounts and benefits of belonging to AARP, she thinks we should join. I look at the left leaning side of the organization and am not sure that I want to sell my soul for a few dollars in discounts.

I heard al qaeda is starting a retirement organization. It's called AQARP.
It's only $12.50 a year and you get lots of discounts. Who cares if you're sending money to an organization that is harming America? As long as you get a discount....

12footer, they also only give discounts for left leaning hotels/motels. I'm not gonna tell you which those are but they have had gays in the rooms before.

Re: AARP ?

Boy, what a bag of ultra-conservative bull!!

I have never had a senior discount refused by any motel, and they all asked for the AARP card before discounting.

If you only read/hear from Rush and his fans you are only gonna hear exaggerated whines.

Most of the above complaints are mere gossip and parroting of right wing propoganda.

Yes, I disagree with a lot of AARP's positions and I tell them so, but I agree with a lot of them, too. There is no way I am a liberal. . . NO WAY.

AARP is conservative, ethical and responsible compared to most churches, and they pay taxes.

If you want to bash, get the facts first rather than jumping on someone's politically motivated smear campaign.

RF and BB were being sarcastic, JB. And BB was the one who brought-up AARP's discounts for lefties... Again, i took this as tounge-in-cheek;

Gays have as much to do with AARP membership as dog catchers...NO difference.
AARP is as useless to it's rank-n-file membership as the UAW is to theirs.
