You folks have been a tremendous help with my impeller questions. Now, on to another problem I've got.

The motor is a 1957 AD-11, 7.5hp.

The recoil spring broke within the first couple pulls. I have one ordered, that should be here this week. I note that you're all rather reluctant to give instructions on how to wind the spring, perhaps because you don't want the liability.

I've replaced the spring in an R/C car, and know how to wind them (or at least did at one time). Is a boat motor recoil done in a similar way? Basically, you start with the spring loose, rope out. Wind all rope into recoil, then pick the rope out from the side of the pulley and unwind the whole thing. Let it recoil back in, pick it out and unwind it from around the pulley again. A couple times should be all it needs, and it should be good and wound up. Or something like that...

Am I on the right track, or do you simply wind the pulley x-number of turns and THEN connect the rope? I can see that working, too, I think. Is there a recommended number of turns, assuming this is a viable method? I don't have the motor in front of me, but remember some sort of markings on the pulley that mentioned "arrow here" along with some other words. Can you enlighten me as to what this means? I'm sure it has something to do with rewinding the recoil spring.

Thanks,
Brian
