Adding rear support brace on trailer

I have a 1984 Bayliner Capri with a galvanized trailer. The trailer does not have a rear support brace. I would like to add one so I can install a tansom saver (engine de-flopperizer). I don't really care if the transom can hold the weight or not, I don't like it shaking around when I am on bumpy roads, cannot be good, lots of washboard-y gravel roads where I live (please do not comment on the necessity of a transom saver or not, I have heard the arguement over and over:)). I was going to attach a v shaped brace at the rear of the trailer. Can anyone comment about the ability to launch and load with such a brace added on. I don't power load, pull boat on by hand or winch it up. The grade of my boat ramp is about 15 degrees or so (just a guess). As the boat approaches when loading the rear of the trailer is lower and the boat slides up on the fixed rails that go all the way the the rear anyway. I have heard yes and no, yet haven't heard from anyone who has installed a rear brace. Obviously, it would have to be installed so it didn't hang too low to hit the road and not too high to hit the underside of the boat. I would like to weld it on, rather than bolt it on. Thanks in advance. Eric

Pictures are worth a thousand words. If we could see what you are dealing with I'm sure we would be able to help..

Re: Adding rear support brace on trailer

Daughter took our digital camera to 2 week girl scout camp today. The brace I am talking about adding would be side to side between the main trailer rails leading to the rear of the boat. At the dock the other night I noticed that 50% of the trailer had a rear lateral brace and 50% did not. The closest one I have to the rear is about 4 feet towards the front of the trailer and since I want to mount some sort of engine support brace, I would like to add one at the rear. I guess the question I would need answered is: Is the front of my boat going to hit the proposed support upon loading and unloading?

Stretch a line/rope across your idea and imagine what a piece of steel would do. Gonna have to be removable not pita

Re: Adding rear support brace on trailer

I have to have the motor tippped up to head down the road on the tilt bracket or I will be 2 inches off the road with the skeg of the motor. Motor is a Force 125, about 300 lbs. When up on the bracket it is VERY shaky when I hit a bump. I am concerned that this shaking and jiggling will, over time, rip apart the transom of my 1984 Bayliner Capri. I live in Illionois, our roads are garbage. I am looking for a way to safely transport my boat 20 miles to the water and 20 miles back. My idea is to manufacture a steel rod that connects to a support brace on the trailer and then a cushioned "u" shaped bracket that I can bungy the motor leg to. I know they make a long bent type that I can purchase online, but, I think it looks ricketty and I don't want to waste my time on an attempt.

I hope this is close to what he is talking about since i have the same trailer he does. I believe, i know it isnt the best pics of the trailer but it should give us a idea of what we can do.
