Re: AeroCraft York 1960ish Transom, Stringers, Deck

Well I slept on what to do and I woke up with a plan. I will pl and screw the deck down then let it cure. I will post up some pics a little later today. I have the time and plenty of other things to do.

I also am going to pour in foam, so I can't drill some holes now to help the PL set up.

Time to get at it. :D

The deck is glued and screwed in. I will give it a few days just to be safe and continue with the glassing.

used one large and one small tube PL premium.

Awesome progress...new dance floor installed...:thumb:

Question about the bilge area...I see the U shaped opening...two things, If I may...?
One, seems a bit on the small side to allow easy access to the bilge pump, float switch, wiring...maybe?
Two, is there a bulkhead between the bilge area and the rest of the under hull to keep the expanding foam from fouling the bilge area...or are you going to let if fill, then cut out what you need...???

Thanks GT

The bilge area is quite small. Just a pump no auto float switch.

I will be sealing the bilge area, so the entire under deck area will be sealed and foamed. I should have cut the wood and glassed that in before the foam, but I got ahead of my self. I will have to cut back the foam after to seal it up.

That foam looks about perfect. Not too full & expanding up & out ('cept those 3 in the middle ) and not under filled either. :thumb:

I got 85 or 90% done and ran out of foam.

as I was working I remembered what some others have done with blue foam as a form, so I did the same.

I need to get more foam, and then I will have to sand the entire deck to get it ready for glass.

In the front I had some basketball sized squeeze outs as you can see the stains.

Great work! Not sure if you've bought all your supplies yet but check out Fiberglass supplies before you buy the rest. they saved me lots O $$$.

Ok while I wait for foam and resin I am thinking, through my keyboard, about the deck layup. Oops recommends 8oz of glass minimum, so If I PB the edges and then tab with 6" 1708. Then move on to 1 complete deck layer 1.5oz CSM, 1 layer 1708, then finish with a final layer of 1.5oz csm. This would be 20ozish. I am thinking a topcoat of interdeck or the like.

Yesterday I sanded the entire deck cleaning up from the foam pour. Today I mixed up some PB and inserted the hole saw plugs.

Today I also started the first layer of CSM on top of the deck.

I am still waiting for some more foam, so I can finish the back section! hopefully soon.

I also put some PB in the Bilge area to see how that would go and it kicked off pretty well. It didn't completely melt the blue foam.

Next time put some clear Packing tape on the foam and the PB won't effect it.

Looking great.... How many cubic feet are you trying to fill? In total not just whats left.
