Just watching Sara Palin's Alaska for the first time.

Doesn't have quite the feel of Marlin Perkin's Wild Kingdom...

Alaska is beautiful!

I miss Marlin Perkins. I haven't seen the show you are talking about.

Re: Alaska

I just watched an episode last night. The one where she shoots the caribou.

It was bit interesting. I might catch the next one, but if it doesn't grab me then I probably wont watch it.

The one were she shoots a Caribou. I have always wanted to see the tundra like that. Just wide open space.

I was stationed there for 18 Mo.s and I will say you can watch all you want and never come close to the beauty of that land

Re: Alaska

Not sure what you were expecting.

I doubt if the producers of the show viewed their target audience as Marlin Perkins fans.

Bottom line is you can get virtually any outdoor adventure you'd want if you have the resources to hire the guides and such to provide it.

And there is no question Alaska is beautiful, and cold, and rugged

I travel to AK, twice per year. I have for the last four. Once in winter and once in summer.

It is an AWESOME place. The sheer vastness of it sort of blows the mind. It is nearly 900 miles from Anchorage to Prudhoe Bay (Deadhorse). It extends almost that far south down the Pacific Coast, not to mention the Alutians.

If you ever get a chance to go-do it.

I actually responded to this post earlier but it somehow disappeared.

I won't bother with my response again since it obviously was poofed for a reason but suffice it to say I have enjoyed the special very much.

You posted in the OTHER thread on this same subject that was locked.

I have really enjoyed it. Alaska is incredibly beautiful and she really brings to life how many Alaskans live.

I've also enjoyed watching her interaction with her family.

...she probably will, give her a year or two!!:D
Seriously, when the show first aired it got a pretty substantial audience and it's been supposedly on the decline ever since audience numbers wise. So catch all the episodes you can now, its looking unlikely it will see a second season.
....but Alaska is worth the visit!!:D

The only thing that never seems to come up is the BUGS. I have as of yet to see them swat one bug?? If Alaska is anything like the rest of the North there has to be like a bazillion mosquito's looking to take a pint or two.

The mosquitos are pretty much a summertime problem. I've spent a fair bit of time in Fairbanks. July there are bugs around that can carry off small dogs. May and September not so much.
