Alignment tool won't fit into coupler grease extension

boat is a 92 regal
motor is 4.3
outdrive is SE116

My mercruiser alignment tool is not going into the coupler properlyl The step is tooo large to get into the grease coupler snout.......does this take a special tool.

Well, no one here knows what "Your" alignment tool looks like, if you have an old Mercruiser bar, it probably needs upgraded to the (Now old) service bulletin.

you hit the nail on the head. Borrowed this tool from a deceased mechanics box. After wire wheeling away the rust its still too big. Will modify the ole tool and buy some ky jelly.

imho, use some mercruiser spline grease instead. that's what you'll wanna lub the coupler with anyways.;)

Rust expands the metal. I would bet if he measures it with some micrometers, even with the rust off, it's likely to still be too big.

was able to rent an alignment tool and set it right today.
