Quick question for you all. I have had a bogging problem all year but it has GOTTEN better. I got this service bulletin about problems with bogging so I tried doing a few of the things the suggested. I readjusted my accelerater pump lever to the top hole was in the middle. Also poured some SeaFoam in the carb and let it sit for 5 and cranked it up and it smoked like a ******* for a few then clears so I figured had so major carbon build up. Also readjusted the choke setting and the boat ran great for a week and a half. Befrore I tryed this stuff it would bog everytime after about 15 minutes and at 3000rpms.

So here is the new old issue. So the boat has been running good and I finally ran out most of the gas in the tank and put in 8 gallons ( out of 19) of fresh gas but I noticed when the lake is flat early morning the boat runs great then later in the day if there is a lot of traffic and it is choppy out it started to bog again but it varys what RPM it does it on.

I seem to thing there is crap in the tank that is getting sucked up and getting cloged in the fuel pickup. The tank is 11 years old and before I tear apart the floor and replace I want to see what others think. Do you think it would slush around so much if I fill it everytime out? Would that help the problem until I can rip the tank out this winter?

Also I can not get off the brass fitting on the fuel line that holds the little filter in the carb it is striped what is the best way to remove that with out doing more damage?
Thanks for the help everyone this site is great.

If your tank has trash in it, it is entirely possible that it is getting picked up, especially as much as a boat bounces around. I think cleaning out or replacing the tank would be the only remedy, but thats just my opinion.
In reference to the brass fitting, if you are talking about the flat parts where a wrench would fit, mine is the same way. Looks like someone used metric instead of SAE, or vice versa. I just removed mine with a pair of vice grips adjusted properly and had no problems.
When you get the brass fitting out, look at the filter, that will tell you alot about your tank condition. Good luck.

Do you have a fuel/water seperator in line?If not,add one and change out the filter as needed.

Re: Almost there still have a few????

before rippin out the floor. i'd consider trying a remote fuel tank and see if the problem still occures. if it does. ya might save yerself some floor repair and expense as that would indicate that the problem is not in the fuel tank or anything else prior to the fuel pump. there are other components involved if it's a fuel delevery problem. ie anti siphone valve, fuel tank vents, fuel filters, fuel pump, fuel lines, water seperators would be a few. i guess i'm just saying i would try to eliminate as many things prior to rippin up the floor.
on the carb. seems like yer either gonna get the nut off or break it off. if the drive on the nut is history, i agree with ALAG3, vise grips. lots of your favorite rust penitrator could help, then bigger visegrips. but if it's gonna break. well, you know what they say about boats......just my opinion though......
ya didn't say what kinda engine and year it is?? only thing we can infer is that it's at least 11 years old.

Re: Almost there still have a few????

Sorry if I repeat a few things

Ziggy : While I was having the other bogging issue I did replace fuel pump, seperator, replace the vent hose and screen. I replaced the inline filter in the carb end of last season and there was nothing on it. Now my boggin problem is not even close to as bad as it was before I poured SEAFOAM down the carb and readjusted the choke and the lever for the accelerator pump to the top setting. After I made those changes the boat ran great for a week or 2.

The reason I am thinking it is the fuel tank is because I had less then a 1/4 of a gas left in the tank from I beleieve last season because I never let the boat get under a half tank and it has been running like hell for most of the season I have not put any new gas in it until a last week when it was almost empty. So I put freash gas only about 7-8 gallons to see how it runs and it runs great early morning and at night. Now it only acts up when there is alot of boat traffic and it gets choppy out there. Once we hit a few waves it started to bog put doesnt stall.
So i beleive there must be somthing in the tank clogging something when it slushs around.
Sombody told me that if I fill the tank there is less room to slush around and I wont have the problem there-for. Do you agree.

Sorry so long I am at work and bored out of my mind.

Seems like the suggestion of running off of a seperate tank like an outboard tank would clinch the discussion though before ripping out the floor. I think that was an excellent suggestion

Have you changed the filter on the fuel pump?
