Alpha 1 Gen II question

What is the small hole (1/8 - 3/16" dia) for on the leading edge of the outdrive about 6" above the prop shaft housing just below the cav plate.
Just curious.

If I'm picturing what you are saying correctly, that should be the pickup for your speedometer. They get clogged easily, so if your speedo isn't working, that's a great place to start. I first thought mine was just a nick, but a little exploration showed me that mine was plugged with wood or something. I was able to clean mine out by working a small diameter drill bit with my fingers.

Thanks for the info guys. I also have the 4.3 LX in a 20 foot cuddy. The power is great and reasonably easy on gas.

I've been happy with the 4.3lx, also. I actually didn't know exactly what I was getting when I bought it..... I just test drove it and thought, "That'll do." My boat is pretty light, and it makes me grin each time I stand on the throttle. I know there is more power out there, but my little 4.3 does just fine (and it does it quietly). My only concern is if/when we move to a larger boat- I guess I'll have to go up in engine, or it will be tough to accept a performance loss.
