I see some rust around the gimbal bearing, but what I did notice is the wheel on the arm really dosent look that good, and the shift slide appears to have a "rounded area in the fork" .A lot of salt corrosion at the brass nut for the shift cable.If that nut was not seated all the way when it was installed, it could affect the reverse adjustments.
Post the pics of the shoe in fwd and reverse. thinking the 10:00 should be more like 10:30
you did say that with the cable disconnected ,the slide bottoms out with a "clank" in the housing. metal hitting metal?
