Hello -
Well I found gear lube leaking onto my driveway and expected the worst. I pulled my drive and found gear oil in my bellows and my res bottle on my engine was empty. I think the hose between the bell and gimbal housing cracked or come loose. This happened on my old boat so I knew where to go. After disassembling the yoke assembly I came across this score on the race surface. I can't determine if it's the cause or just a bad seal. The picture is after the cleanup with scotch brite and 2500 wet sand. I'd like your opinion on this. I've also heard of speedy sleeve but I have no clue where to find that locally. Thanks

Ayuh,... That's pitted,... I'd put a speedi-sleeve on it,...SKF # 99225,...

I haven't found a Merc input shaft that didn't fit,...

Here's the brand that has been mentioned before:
SKF SPEEDI-SLEEVE - SKF.com/Products

..and a post from last year about it:
http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser.../gear-oil-leak-possible-yoke-seal-545569.html

Seems like you'd need to pressure test, and now some saying vacumn test, the drive to see where it might be leaking from.

Mark

Ahhh thanks! This saved me from multiple posts!! I'm going to order the speedi sleeve today and hopefully that will save me cash. Yes I'm making a setup now to pressure test the drive. Thanks so much.

Re: Alpha One Gen 2 yoke surface issue

Jim,

Got your PM... Thanks for that... but we prefer service questions 'in the open' so others can benefit from the answer.

So, for the benefit of everybody who will read this thread in the future, looking for help...

I have gear lube in my bellows. I found my yoke seal surface pitted and grooved so I am in the process of putting a speedi sleeve on it. The question I have is about the process of applying rolling torque. Can you explain how it's done? I don't want to grenade my drive after the repair. Any guidance would gratefully be appreciated! Thank you for your time.

I made a video of the set-up procedure a while back, it's posted in the video section of the Mercruiser stickies... First video in the list...

Good luck.
