Hello again all, as per my luck port finally is running right. Thanks to all for the help. Now, first trip out the starboard is heating up lol. Issue was in the impeller, so I decided this time around to change the impeller housing along with the impeller. The lower housing was stuck pretty bad and ended up destroying it while removing it. At the time I figured it did not matter, I have a new one... Well turns out that none of the Alpha one gen one, pre alpha or MR seam to be the same. Here is a picture of the new one that does not fit. Unfortunately I dont have a picture of the old one, one of the cleaning people at the yard thought it was garbage because I left it on the ground. But here is the difference. It looks exactly the same on the top side. But on the bottom side where it seats on the lower drive. The circle with the rubber gromit around it is completely different. The old one does not have a rubber seal and It is only about 1/8 of an inch tall, and it is just a circle 1/8 of an inch wide and hollow in the center. All the ones I have found online are either too tall by almost double or are solid through the center. I made a terrible diagram to try and show the difference.

I wont be back to the yard until saturday, I will post pics with the housing off then. I am just confused, I was in the parts store yesterday and he said there was only 3 different housings for the alpha gen one. And none of them was even close to the same on the bottom part or the bottom housing. The top part of the bottom housing is exactly the same it is just the seal part that is wrong. Everything else in the kit is exactly the same. And oddly enough the other drive I have is the same housing. But is CR and this side is standard. So I may have to pull that housing off carefully to use on the starboard side. I googled for pics and none ever came up with the one that was on the drive. But I would prefer not to tear apart the extra drive......

let me get some pics the one on the right is MC1,R that DOES NOT have the 4 slot retainer. It has a preload pin on top of the driveshaft. The one on the left is ,MR,Alpha1 and DOES HAVE the 4 slot retainer

the blue item in the first pic needs to be removed, then you will see the 4 slot retainer
but the question remains how did you see this? its the 4 slot bearing retainer. Not a plastic insert, it is metal

OK I may have misunderstood what you was referring to. I assumed you was talking about the blue part on top. So no, I did not remove it and look under it. I did not want to leave it in the yard for a week so I had to pull the part off the spare drive. So now I need a replacement for the spare. I was hoping it was a merc part, but its not in the merc book or the sierra book. Is there a conversion kit or something to use the parts available? Or is the blue thing just removed completely to allow the extra space needed for the replacement housing?

that blue part broke off the bottom of the pump base you removed. You need to remove that in order to install the new base.
Open the link in post #2 and read it.

Ugh, I see what you are saying now. The idiot mechanic I hired was as clueless as I was about the part. Not thinking to remove that blue part. Kind of strange that it was "broke" on the rebuilt drive too though. The part looked brand new so I didnt even question it.......
