I am having new seats installed and someone recommened using 3M 4200 on the lag bolts and in the pilot holes. Problem is I cannot find 3M 4200 in stock anywhere nearby and I don't have time to order online. Is there an alternative to 4200 I could use that I might find at my local Lowe's or Home Depot?

I read that 5200 is something that you use on something you don't want to ever take apart. I hope I don't have to remove these seats once mounted but if I do, I don't want to tear up the floor when I do so.

Captain, did you mean Attwood 7200? I've heard of that but not the 4200.

Just trying to do a little research before I jump in the car....thanks guys.

Are fasteners coated with 3M 5200 un-removable using hand tools? I've read conflicting stories.

Kinda, but not totally. I would just use some PL premium adhesive. It remains flexible when cured, is 100% waterproof and will do the job nicely.

Unless you have a lot of stuff to use the 5200 on in one day, I would pass on it. After you open the tube it starts curing, even with the top put back on.

4200 doesnt set up in the tube so it can still be used later if need be. I would almost try that attwood stuff someone mentioned. Ive seen it at 4 different walmarts now, so yours should have it.

Question I have is, are parts hand-tool removable when secured with the Attwood? Don't want to have to tear big holes in my flooring should I ever need to remove my seats.

None of them will rip holes in the floor, even 5200.

Don't use Gorilla Glue. 4200 to protect your investment.

I have used this with success in a pinch. Available at wally world, and many hardware stores.

I saw this at Ace when I was looking for 3M 4200 and wondered about it. I have also thought about simply using some good wood glue. Today I called the shop doing the seats for me and asked if they typically use any adhesive/glue on seat base mounting lag bolts and their pilot holes and the answer I got was "No, not when using SS fasteners and we've done a lot of very expensive boats this way without any problems" but he also said they are open to using something that I supplied them with. I was sort of surprised to hear they don't use anything but then again, it takes a little time to apply and that cuts into their profits so I guess I understand.

Someone else mentioned Attwood 7200 above. It seems to be like 5200 which I have decided not to use due to possibly having difficulty removing the screws in the future if necessary.

I feel the "permanent-ness" of 5200 is largely overrated. Anyway, I'd probably go with that Attwood stuff from Wally.
