Aluminum plate

Can anyone tell me a "cheap", or at least "reasonably" priced place to pick up a piece of "marine grade" aluminum, (#5356 ?)3/8" thick? I'm looking for a piece 12"x16".<br />I live in a pretty small town and I almost PASSED out when they told me what it would cost...$157!!!! I asked if they understood I was after 12 INCHES by 16 INCHES, not feet!<br /><br />I'm having a plate welded on my transom so I can mount a kicker bracket for my small motor. <br /><br />Thanks in advance!

That 3/8 piece of stock is what's killing you. Not someting ,anyone ,anywhere is going to have laying around.Why can't you use a sandwich of thinner stock ,bolted together to accomplish what you need to do?

BBogey -- I noticed you live in Washington state. I forget the town but there's a place where Boeing sells off surplus stuff. You can pick up a 4'x8' sheet for about that. It's amazing what they have. There's a guy here in town that stocks it but the freight alone would be a bunch.<br /><br />Good luck!

BBogey<br /><br />Don't know where here in Washington you live but 3/8" marine aluminum is available in Seattle, Clarkston and any other town where aluminum river boats are manufactured. There are also several boat manufacturers in Oregon.<br />That would just be a scrap piece from one of them.<br /><br />****

Hi Bbogey<br />I have a plate. 1/2 thick 12 "inches" by 25 "inches". Its hard to read but I think it says Re 6061-1651 00-A-2501 Alcoa. Don't know if it's marine grade but it's for a transom built for a drag boat. This was one of those times your suppose to measure twice cut once. let me know if your intrested

Are you stuck on the idea of 5386? If not there is a pretty good listing of 6061-T6 on e-bay. I have some welded on my 5086 aluminum boat exterior below waterline (salt) without any problem (not ideal due to the small % of copper), but 5086 channel is nearly impossible to find. Search for "aluminum 6061". Good Luck

Yes Dhadley, Its called "Boeing Surplus" located in Kent Washington, They have lots of Aluminum and other goodies.

I'm only saying the #5356 because the guy that's going to weld it on my boat was saying that type would be the "best", but not the only route to go.
