I have just recently (about 20 minutes ago) got my hand well and truly slapped....

The reason was that someone had posted a question... poorly and without enough information... I answered with a request for more info... When to bed and woke this morning to find that the aforementioned person has told me, via another thread, that I have been bad mannered in not answering his post...

Opinions?

Chris............

Yes. If you got bashed someone needs to be smitten...no...smote? "Smited" just doesn't sound right.

At least yelled at.

Report the post, PM me links but don't start a vigilante movement. That wouldn't last an hour.

That didn't seem bad at all.. you simply asked for more info so that you can know exactly what needed to be done.. he might have read it wrong.. and he has no right bashing iboats.. this is the nicest forum ive ever been on .. i don't think you were wrong in this situation.. people have taken longer to answer questions in some threads. like jim said were allowed to do other things than stay online all day answering questions we are human.

Insufficient information in the original post...............nothing wrong with your reply...............rude poster that does not appear to have a clue (link 2). There have been many times I've replied to an initial post/question requesting additional info..................only to find my knowledge of their engine drive combo was not extensive enough to correctly answer the question. However the additional info always helps someone correctly answer.

You seem to be justified. The only issue I could see perhaps is if he wasnt in tune to scarcasm right from the get go, the "it should cut your boot open" comment may come off as a dig. Obviously the rest of us can sense that but maybe he took it wrong. You did make a valiant effort to be friendly and helpfull in the following posts so.. dont worry, win some lose some, its all good.

if these post were reported immediately, they can be nipped in the bud.

the red and white triangle at the upper right, is an automatic report to all the moderators. just click on the triangle, it will ask for a simple explaination.

when this is done, we can react accordingly. posting the links in a thread like this, is not the proper way to handle a problem.

I don't think you were wrong at all. He didn't give much info and you merely asked for more. I wouldn't worry about it.

It would be easy to go with the flow but I don't understand the need for either the year or serial number to answer a question so simple, in as much as anyone that has repaired Mercury outboards for very long should know that all 9.8 Mercurys shift on the same principal. When I see the same question asked in response time after time by some individuals I thought they are just padding or not experienced, when accompanied with cute remarks it is borderline sarcasm. It would be no different if I had a cute remark about the word "worng". Two wrongs never make a right guys. Bob

Re: Am I in the worng here? Need advise

Good morning all. Seems like another dreary day of TS Fay dumping another few inches of badly needed rain upon us....
I feel it's a shame that when a reply to a post shows our tongue firmly planted in our cheek and someone feels offended.
I usually have a bit of anxiety when looking for an answer to my immediate and urgent problem and just love it when someone comes along and helps take the edge off.
I find that the sense of humor shown on this forum is one of the reasons I keep coming back. The Mod's all show some genuine care and concern without that "God almighty" presence........well, maybe just one or two do, however we don't need to mention any names here. :p
I wouldn't take things so personally, Chris. Just keep on keeping on and thanks for your posts and replies.

Re: Am I in the worng here? Need advise

People ask for year and model info for a variety of reasons, all of which are directed towards trying to give good advice. You can start with the fact that not all of us are intimately familiar with every model of a given manufacturers product line. A such, we might not know how similar a particular system is, across that range of motors. On the other hand, we might know a particular year/model motor extremely well, and might be quite willing to offer advice in regard to it. Should the motor be one that we don't feel we know well, however, we might be hesitant to offer comment, for fear of giving bad information.

I don't think the request for additional info was out of line at all. I would also say that if someone feels a need to chastise me for trying to make sure that I can be of help, I would not be inclined to offer further assistance. You know, its kind of like "if you don't appreciate the attempt to help, fine, figure it out yourself!"
