i find myself replacing anodes again 2nd time in less than 1year. i have twin merc opti 150 salwater 2005. equal wear on both anodes on lower units . on one occasion only had screws and no anode plates @ lower unit . are these anodes getting cheaper/poorer in quality??? I keep my boat on a canal on davits /not touching water . where is this wear to the anodes coming from???

Re: anodes replacement

If your boat is aluminium and the anodes are eroded, then the engine anodes are trying to protect the hull as well as the engine. if your hull is 'glass, then start looking for stray currents. Is there someone near you who is using 'shore power'? Or are you? If shore power isn't isolated properly then you can watch the anodes disappear.
