Hello fellow bottom feeders and tin boat hoarders! I was going to post yesterday asking if I should pickup another Starcraft, but what the heck - I know what the answer would be! (Is it aluminum? Buy it!) Just kidding.

Saw a faint ad on Craigslist yesterday about an 18.5' Starcraft and went to check it out. I already own the 16' footer and wanted to upgrade whenever the chance arose to a bigger boat. So here it is:

Asking price $1400, offered $1000, gave up $1300. The boat will need a full restore, BUT unlike my 16', all of the hardware is there! Has the full bow rail and other goodies. Even the original fuel tank. More pics later.

Starcraft boats are hard to come by here in Texas, so at that price, I went ahead and took it.

I plan on getting to work on gutting the interior soon, removing the paint and polishing this one, sort of like our resident Starcraft dealer dozerll.

What do you guys think about that price? Oh, yeah: it comes with a Suzuki 65 hp, which I will get rid of and find something more suitable.

nice. glad to see another Starmadan south of the Arctic circle. don't be too excited about the orig fuel tank til you check inside for rust, tho. boat looks nice from outside. not sure i'd even paint/strip, and try the Zookie before you decide it's too small

Welcome to the mob, BTW. we love as many pix as you can post

looks good, I agree with barato, you may not need to paint if she'll clean up nice. full restore can get expensive. I'll have about 2k in mine when I'm done and I'm not buying seating...just every thing else.

The paint is okay I guess. It's almost the same as my 16' SS. I have been thinking of changing the paint to black top and interior and polished hull exactly like the 1987 SS that dozer built to match my silver truck, but I'm not sure. What I do know is that I'm kind of getting tired of the white blue combo. What's occupying my mind lately is how will the polished hull hold up in appearance.

I can't wait to get started. I have to pick up some tires and check the hubs before I can move it his weekend.

Look thru a few SC threads there are 2 products to keep polished tin looking great. 1 is SharkHide and I know there's another that has been used on an SC @here somewhere. There are probably others as well.

Nice find. Swap motors and both the 16 and the 18 will have appropriately sized motors.

Re: Another 18' Super Sport equals MBS

After looking at all of the recent finds on here, I'm finally getting over the fact that I probably paid more than I should have for the boat. With that said, I feel that I will be able to recoup some money by cleaning the garage and selling some marine related items that I don't need.

At the current time, i have been working on getting the trailer ready for the road. I've purchased and replaced the wheels and tires, trailer hitch, safety chains, trailer lights and transom straps. I'm not sure of when the boat last moved, so I've filled both hubs with marine grease.

I have to ensure this thing is road worthy as much as possible, since I live 300+ miles away and I'll post more pictures of the setup later.

Re: Another 18' Super Sport equals MBS

that woulda been too much if boat were in MI/WI/MN but they're scarcer in Texas....maybe the hoosier boats couldn't get past all the hordes of Lone Stars, TX Maids, Ark Travelers and Oklahoma Girls as they headed south? assume you'd walked away from that one. how long would it have been before another 18SS came up in your acceptable driving range? now go to the Tracker (or Starcraft) web site and see what the modern turnkey version of your boat would cost. i guarantee you'll feel better.

clean up the 16 and sell it, and that would more than fund the resto of the 18. aside from about 1000 hours of your sweat blood tears.

agreed B2, here in NC Starcrafts are like hens teeth. Most folks haven't even heard of them and they come up on CL about once a month or so. If you want one you got to buy when available. The 1000 hours...that's another story

No need for buyer's remorse on that boat. In Michigan, yea it could have gone for less, but if you figure gas up and back you're good.

Thanks for the responses guys. Makes me feel better. I have now gone over the edge and purchased another 18' SS. So I am now the owner of three Super Sports. I couldn't pass up this other deal I spotted. Primarily because it has a 115 Evinrude. Will post pics soon. This is going to be a crazy ride.

You didn't over pay, concept. At the height of the boating season or spring prices are higher. And add the rarity in some U.S locations like Texas, you did fine. And why are they rare in Texas? Cause you're buying them two at a time. LOL

You need to sell one of the 18's and get a 20 foot SS followed by a 22' SS. Then you have the SS fleet. MBS and 2footitis all cured. For a little while. :D

BTW - the 16 looks sweet!

Thankfully, I am not in Texas or currently looking for an 18':D Might have a 110 or a 115hp hanging around that might fit though:rolleyes:

Next on the Discovery channel:

Hoarders, the Starcraft affliction ~ Is it a legally recognized disability and is the cure as equally terminal as the disease?

MBS flairs up once again. I haven't seen it this bad since Dozer's last acquisition:)

Take it from me, I'm not just the MBS club president, I'm a sufferer too:facepalm:

Update: Finally trailered the boat home this weekend. 300+ miles with no incident. Filling the hubs with new grease paid off! This is what happens when you read too many restorations here in the iboats forum:

Multiple boat madness disease!

I hope I don't get in trouble. My wife seems to support the effort of having one really nice boat. I promised her that I would sell the 16' and get rid of the glasser that I cannot finish. I will be starting the restore as soon as possible. Work assignments keep me away from the backyard.

Another stupid surprise... By actually reading the serial plate, I discovered that the outboard is actually a 1984 Suzuki 85 HP. I had been thinking from the beginning that I would sell this motor off because it was only 65HP and use the 115 from the other SS I bought. I will be ordering the water pump kit today and changing it out when I get the chance.

To be honest, I think I jumped the gun a little too fast on the other boat. I've always admired the winshields and bow rails of the newer model Super Sports. I also like the lack of lapstrakes on the upper half of the hull. So, at this point, i'm not sure which to keep.

At the end of the day, I just want one decent sized bruiser of a boat. Can't wait to get started and I have many decisions to make.

Heh. I like your post b2, it's funny and true. I will be down to one soon enough!! I'm getting the glassed hauled off this week. Anyone want a free tandem trailer? (I'm serious).
