I check CL every day... for what? ANOTHER BOAT???

no, we're just looking for stuff like anchors and seats, right?

Boat is for a 'friend' in need. To help sell it refer them to Bear's glasser's demise:facepalm:

I look for rod holders and down riggers and fuel tanks. Things like that, you know, used stuff that's permanently attached to another boat. Some times a trailer has a free boat on top.

Great suggestion. I just read most of that thread and was surprised. I don't blame him. I wanted the glasser, but the restore was too much for me! It will be out of her soon enough. I will probably move another of the SC to storage.

Heh. I like your post b2, it's funny and true. I will be down to one soon enough!! I'm getting the glassed hauled off this week. Anyone want a free tandem trailer? (I'm serious).

Shoot Tracey, you should put that tandem trailer back on CG and recoope a few bucks. You really have the MBS man... and it looks like you live in a HOA??

You're right on about finding tin in the SS flavor around here. I drove to OK for my last one and paid $800 for a boat that needs a complete restore. Then the next week a V5 pops up for $1200... arggg.

At the current time, there is no HOA. I'm not the only one with multiple vehicles behind the house. The current trend in my neighborhood is to build the high enclosed fence with the motorized gate. (to hide backyard fun, I guess)

The funny thing cj8, is that the week you started your thread was the week I found that boat in the San Antonio area. I'm currently working in that area and just so happen on it. I wish I could have purchased the one in OK and you could have had this one! This stuff is fun and in my case, getting ridiculous. :)

Oh yeah, where is that V5?

Re: Another 18' Super Sport equals MBS

I haven't posted in a little while, so quick update:

After much hesitation, I've purchased the third SS, the 1983 model 180. This boat has many problems, unlike the 72 purchased earlier. It has been used in saltwater, so many, if not all of the rivets will have to be replaced - along with other unknowns. The heads of some of the rivets will just pop off with light force and the bilge area around the transom may need some additional metalwork.

My original plan was to use the Evinrude 115, some of the interior parts (newer style windshield, consoles, etc.) and nice galvanized trailer, junk the hull and turn the 72 into a real looker, but since the 72 has all of its hardware, I think I will restore that one back to original.

For the price I paid for the 83, I think the value has been returned, and I hope to be able to restore that hull... I like the sleekness of the 83, compared to the 72 model. The hull of the 83 appears to be a little wider and not as deep as the 72. I keep looking and trying to compare the two, but since I haven't gotten it home yet, I can't really tell.

Anyone have insight about how these two hulls compare? Scanning the specs in the brochure doesn't reveal anything obvious to me yet. The 1983 hull looks more like a pointed bow 16 SS and the 1972 appears bigger in just about every aspect to the 16.

Other news: I have trashed the interior of the 72 and started the engine for the first time (not difficult for something that hasn't been started in years).

The amount of choices I have is driving me insane, so I must choose one soon, and get it going.

Will post pics as soon as photobucket cooperates.

Your not kidding concept! I lost track of how long I scrounged CL. The week after I went to OK to purchase that 18' SS a 21' V5 showed up, that 18' SS, and a $300 chief! :(

Although, that's a good way to increase the MBS... I only have room for 3 boats. Time to move.. ha ha

oh yeah, that V5 didn't last long for $1K

Hey MBS? :p

OOOPPPSSS, I mean Tracey :D :D :D

Think any of yall have MBS??? Well if the deal I was approached about works out, I'll have instant MBS 22 boats of all brand & sizes, several are Tinneys large & small. A buddy of mine works for a towing service. They have more than the 22 boats but the owner just wants them gone but has to go through the proper channels to auction them off. I guess they've had them in several sales & no one has even offered! Next sale is Oct 27, & Ima be there with 2x the expected total cost for all, & will be very busy for a few days getting them to my pre arranged storage to dismantle & haul glass hulls to the dump, Here in Tx. ANY trailer that is functional with lights will sell for $200.00 with no effort. So, 22 x 200 = $$$ plus all the parts to sell, plus parts to keep for current & future SC's!!!! OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! I just hope it works out as expected, for the parts alone...

Thanks Tracey, I sure will!!!
Good job so far, fairly easy getting these off/on the trailers HUH! FYI, I got so free 2x's in various length/width from new home job site's. Just roll up & ask the guys working if u can pick some from there scrap pile, they have some real good (to them scrap) Wood!!! I built some short saw horses that I put mine on when I have it upside down!

Re: Another 18' Super Sport equals MBS

Making progress everyday on the project. I am 99.23 % done with removing the paint. A few small areas still remain that are non-priority right now. I am only focusing on sanding and polishing the bottom of the hull right now. Warning: Stripping and polishing the hull is a lot tougher than I thought it would be.

Some spots are easier to polish than others. I have not ordered the Shark Hark that I want yet, I have been using the $20 kit from HF. I am still practicing before I waste money.

Sorry about the huge picture. Having trouble with resizing in PhotoBucket. Will post more soon.

Re: Another 18' Super Sport equals MBS

I have'nt posted on this thread in a while. I haven't seen the point because the progress has been real slow, especially after being involved in two accidents since the beginning of the year.

I have finally cleaned the bottom of the hull to the consistency that I want. It's not perfect, but it's ready for polish:

I have been debating what type of polish to use and decided on Shark Hide because of the cost. Everyone on here has had decent results , so I will see how it goes. It will be here this weekend!! Can't wait until it arrives!

I also picked up something else that's been tying me up:

1983 Evinrude 150! The Suzuki had low compression in one cylinder, so I got rid of it and been looking for a 140 or 150 ever since.

Picked up this engine for $300 bucks! After receiving some carb kits, and other stuff, it should be running great by this weekend!

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to starting this engine and getting the bottom done. So ready to get this thing on the trailer and complete.
