Re: Another 18' Super Sport equals MBS
Hey Concept... boat is really coming along... some progress is still progress! If you want really bring the shine up and given that it appears you used mechanical means to strip the paint for the most part, it would be best to wet sand 150 to 200 to 400 to 600 to 800 + the affected areas and then use an aluminum polish first before applying the sealant. If you like the way it is then go for it! Just some thoughts from a fellow polisher! It will take a good couple of hours per side on the bottom to sand it and then another couple of hours to polish each side --- you may need to apply the polish a couple of coats before it really shines --- but trust me it will!
All the best!
PS -- motor looks great!

Thanks Jim,
I have read your thread a couple of times, along with many others trying to find the best route to go with the prep. My method has varied, because I could find the best way to remove the paint!
I started with the spray aircraft paint remover, moved to the orange stuff, the aircraft remover in the can, and finally to automotive paint remover (it's the cheapest and seems to work the best out of all).
It seems that I had about three layers of paint on the hull - type unknown. I tried the strippers on two other hulls and it seems to work fine, with one coat of paint, at least.
The scrapes and scratches are due to me pulling out the sander after getting frustrated.
Anyway, the deep scratches have been removed by starting with 100 grit, moving to 220 and them Scotchbrite. So most of my hull is at that level. I think I may have to continue sanding as you advise to achieve a better shine on the sides.
