How about a get together this summer at Nettles Island, Fl. We have a full service marina, parking for RV's, and cheap summer rates.

I'm all for going to St Augustine and Chrystal River, which I entend on doing.

I would like to invite everyone down (or up) for a day or week.

We have fishing, snorkeling, beach, ICW, Tiki's and much more to keep us all busy.

Any thoughts?

Re: Another Summer Roundup

Where is Nettles Island? Accesible from the ICW? How long a trip down from Daytona? Will you pay for my gas? (just thought I'd toss that in there...)

AHHHH!! I just checked Google Earth. It's 152 miles from DB. Looks like a nice marina there, though.
I'm in, but maybe we'll drive and ride the boat with you, Sasto...:D

We are in the middle of the ICW and across the street from the ocean. I think I will set a date and make a formal invite.

Fireman, drive on down anytime. I have 3 boats in my hands in good working order now, never know what tomorrow holds though. I tend to do things spur of the moment.

Re: Another Summer Roundup

I'd love to join in. I wouldn't be able to do it any time soon, though. The St Augustine trip is only a remote possibility with all I've got going on right now. If There's enough time in between, The chances will be better for me. I'm going to be working my butt off to be able to make these things happen, both at work with extra shifts when possible, and at home with renovations, and helping my In-Laws with their renovations. I've got a lot on my plates. Not enough room on just one:rolleyes::facepalm:; but I'm working hard and trying hard:).

Re: Another Summer Roundup

Most of my summer activities involve teanagers out of school. Parents send them down here to stay with their Grandparents, and we have a bunch of them. Our home is always open for them, and many fishing and snorkeling trips planned. I would like to do it shortly after school starts.

I'm packed and ready for a trip anytime and if I'm home, the door is always open.

If Sasto puts this together it will be right in your back yard or something like that, little over 6 hours from where I am, wait and see when and how things are with me and travel. Wife finally back to work so not sure if that would affect anything or not.

We're also putting one together (tentatively early June) even closer to you. Look for the thread we've started for a St. Augustine get together...

Re: Another Summer Roundup

Be there! St. Augustine is one of the few remaining old south towns. If you like Charleston, SC...Savanna., GA...etc....you will like St. Augustine.

Never had the opportunity to stop by water, or been to the marina.

You picked a good place that the Lady and I truely enjoy. All we need is an excuse.:)

Here?.... I'm thinking out of season . Bring your boat, or leave it at home, bring your RV, or bring your truck. October....November.....all you have to do is get here.

See Ya in St. Augustine, Fireman.

When you say "after scool starts", do you mean after spring break? What dates are you thinking? Not looking for any definitive answer, just an idea.

No problem, Sasto. It's an easy trip in. Call a few weeks ahead to reserve the slip. Get on the radio when you come it. It's right at the south side of the Bridge of Lions. Dock up to the fuel dock, sign the papers, and there will be someone at the slip to help you dock up. Real friendly place.

Here's the kicker: Don't arrive at an incoming tide. You'll be right at the mouth of the inlet and fighting a 5 kt current and swirling water coming thru the bridge. It's real easy to get away from you (don't ask me how I know). I always check the tide charts and arrive at a slack tide. Then it's like docking in a swimming pool.

See Ya in St. Augustine, Fireman.

We'll be there...more to come!

Re: Another Summer Roundup

Thanks for the info, fireman. I've been to over 100 marinas without local knowledge and it can be tricky and sometimes dangerous. Occasionally exciting after it's all over with. Every bit of local info is helpful, and as always, I will do some research if I bring a boat.

I don't have a trailerable boat, don't want to take the ICW all the way either. I have been to Jacksonville several times and I can be at the marina from my place in 8 hrs. by ocean. Once made a wrong move and went straight into Mayport Naval Station just after 9/11. That's another story!

Then I would certainly do that. It's 5 hours to DB from St. Augustine, but I'm in it for the peaceful cruise down the ICW. There are areas south of Mantanzas where the river is only 100' wide with tall sand dunes on the west and beautiful mansions on the right. Nice to cruise and wave to everyone @ 6 knts. Beautiful ride. you might want to try it once on the way home.

This one I want to hear.

I'm watching Fireman.

This could be cool too.

My cousin Debbie who I haven't seen in a very long time lives in Jensen Beach and from what I here has a real nice boat, so this could be real fun.

Hi Craig, I'm planning on something in Sept to Nov. Anytime around then is good with me. Let me know if you ever want to come to JB. I may know Debbie and I have a whole floor in our home not used.

My birthday is toward the end of September. When my wife asks me, "What do you want to do for your birthday?", guess what I'm going to tell her... Lookin' like I'll probably be there, Sasto.:D

That's really great of you. My Birthday is September 20th.

My wife and children have calmed me down over the years; but I've gotta warn ya, between you and I together, Florida may never be the same:rolleyes:.
