Well, found another one that i'm gonna look at today. This one's a 1996 Sea Ray 210 (open bow) with the 350merc with 690hrs. Looks like a pretty hot boat in very nice shape. (in the pictures, lol)
Asking price is abround $6k...
Any input on this boat?

I just sold a 1996 Reinell 17.5' V6 for about that price. So if you can get this Sea Ray for that amount, you're probably getting a pretty good deal. That's assuming it's been taken care of and doesn't need a bunch of work done. Seems like they should be able to get a bit more for it than that, so I'd check it over pretty well before pulling the trigger. Sea Ray's are great though.

I recently purchased my "new to me" 1st boat and I did all the checks that everyone says do. Most of my repairs have been very minor that I can accomplish myself thus far. As I read and educate myself about boating and boating parts, I've learned more of "what to look for" and how much it would cost to repair.

* check for steering slop
* stand behind the outdrive and see if it moves left to right and up and down
* check if the movement is between the Gimbal Ring and that little shaft thingy at the top

If the Gimbal Ring is worn too much at that little pin thingy, then you will be fixing / replacing the Gimbal Ring itself sometime soon. The parts along are around $500 to $1000 +/-..and that does not include the labor.

Just putting out there lessons learned from a newbie so that you have some idea of what the repair cost "could be". I got lucky and only had to torque my bolts down to 50 ft lbs and i'm good.

One of my boating buds has the same boat, same year, same engine. With a Laser II prop it runs about 50 mph, easy on gas and rock solid reliable. Its a great boat for skiing, it comes out of the water fast! He did add trim tabs to his for rough water and it made a huge difference!!

I have a 95 210 Monterey Open Bow. 350 merc 200hrs. I've looked at the similar year Sea Rays as well. The boats are similar, and I love mine. I paid $7,500 a yr ago. If I had done a better pre-purchase inspection I would have paid alot less. The engine and drive are solid, but needed a new deck and stringers. The boat is better than new now...and I'm much happier..but should have been avoided.

I would highly suggest you pay to have a certified Merc mechanic look over the engine and drive. Doing a Bellows replacement, impeller, gimble bearing ect..are things you don't want to do..or if they need replacing you can negotiate that into the price.

Also, make sure you do a good job of going over the deck..walk ALL over it and even tap it with a hammer and make sure you get a crisp "wrap" not a thud. Dont want to have to rip up the floor and replace stringers either. Also, go over the transom as best you can..tap all around the outside and make sure again, you get a nice crisp solid sound..no dead thuds. If the transom has been drilled into below the water line for a depth sounder or speedo an dthe holes weren't sealed correctly, water can get in.

Well, the boat was pretty nice but something came up that took away my time that I allotted for a test drive. I'm gonna try to go back up later this week. Floors seemed solid, transom appeared solid and the interior was very clean and well kept.
The owner of course said it runs excellent and has no known problems. He said his top speed is 56 based on his gps and that it could do more with a different prop and some engine tweaks. He hasn't done those things as he said he's "scared to mess around with a perfectly good running boat that came from the factory as it was designed to be" He then laughed and said "in truth, I'm just not a motor guy and would be afraid I'd screw something up"

Nice guy and he said to come back up when I can and we'll put her in the water and he'll let me run with it... I told him to be sure to have his gps ready.
I really like the boat thus far and will be even more impressed if it actually can do 56 in stock form...

My tug does 51.9mph by GPS.

That's about right. The shop got mine to 60mph on gps and a chase boat.

You'll be doing good to hit 50 in it. The wish-o-meter might read 56 or whatever, but thats a heavy boat!

Do you own a Sea Ray ?. How do you know this ??. If I can hit 51.9 by GPS.
He should hit the high 50's with no problems.

Nice boat At 690 hrs, risers and manifolds would be a concern of mine if they haven't already been replaced. Plenty of other very expensive needs on that motor if not already done. Go through it carefully.
