Re: Another one...Upholstery

All that ^^^ sounds fabulous! The tarp turned out great. Like the logo/signage for your truck too!

Mind telling us which seam 'joint' you used & the thread to sew tarp material. I can't remember the details, but 1 of WOG's suggested YouTube vids had another vid about sewing boat vinyl & tarps & making various seams that had different strengths & waterproofing capabilities.

And is it tarp material as in the plastic w/ the nylon rip stop grid tarp that you can buy all over the place in random sizes. Or a boat tarp material?

Again all that sounded great, keep moving forward & business will really pop once you start at the new joint!

Re: Another one...Upholstery

I used a semi-flat felled seam on it with all the seam joints facing down so water runs over and not into seam..the size made making a full flat felled seam impossible with my current machine...I used sunguard 92 thread, and it was a vinyl tarp material, same stuff they make truck lumber tarps out of (hence weighing 40# when finished) not the material I would have recommended, but the customer wanted to use what he had and just paid me for the labor and thread.

Another Small Job, not worth it's own thread, but some folks wanted to see what I have been up to lately, so A guy did not want to deal with the bug boat cover during the summer, but wanted to protect his seats just the same...solution was custom covers for each seat separately

He did not want to pay the extra cost of fitting the covers to console and fishing seats, so got boxed covers, I don't like them but he really did not want custom fitted

Re: Another one...Upholstery

This is becoming my this and that thread...

Sun Visors...trickier than one would think, wrapping the curves required heating the vinyl, and then shocking it with ice water to make it keep the new shape

So I split visor and then wrapped the whole thing and glued it back together like previously done, original visors were done with a headliner material and in a convertible, wore out really fast, he wanted vinyl so I told him up front it was uncharted territory for me and gave it a try

Dag nab it, silly forum phone # rules. I wanted to call today & sign up to be your first WV customer....... Oh, well, I'd have probably gotten the time zones confused & called at 4am:p

We need to get ya some nice bright lights for that sign, otherwise it looks FAB! Just like the upholstery.

Oh, snap, their already lining up:

I am resisting the urge to start an 'I knew him before he bought his 1st sewing machine' thread in the resto forum:D:eek:

I'll let ya know if I start 1 over in the iBoats sewing circle forums:facepalm:

Hadn't had a chance to get caught up with your happenings...

Congratulations on hanging the shingle...you not only have earned it, you darn well deserve it!

Hope your time is so totally taken up upholstering that you need to hire out the finish on your Skeeter...LOL:p

Keep your stitches straight, except when they need to be curved...

Be well and best wishes on your flourishing business,
GT:D

Re: Another one...Upholstery

Thanks guys....and those ones arent lining up...havent gotten to finishing the sign from that side!!! It is a good location though...behind those 2 7 miles are 7 private lakes...in front of them 30 miles is lake norfork...the boat traffic up this road is heavy so hoping that having sign up will increase my load...been super busy since moving in have done 2 more boats, installed new carpet in a pick up truck, and preparing to redo the bench seats in one. In negotiation with a restaurant that wants all of their booths redone (huge job, somewhat intimidating like 30 back to back booth seats and 100 chairs). I never would have expected this when i started my own seats on a cheap wal mart machine that broke half way through...and the 20 dollar investment in my singer has paid off lol....Shopping for a new machine right now.

Oh yeah and for nastalgic purposes...did ya notice the sign is done in my Skeeter's colors?
