Hi

Yes antoher newcomer to the field of the restoration of boat. I must immediately say that this new passion comes from the restoration of ezmobee and Huron Angler. A big thanks to you. I also tell you that I am from Quebec and I'm not very good at English, so please forgive a few mistakes.

This is a starcraft supersport with 1977 Johnson 70hp motor and trailer 1993. All for $ 1,100. It has been used in salt water

So I planned to begin later this week to remove the floor. I know that the hull seems to be failing miserably. I have already started to panic but I'll wait to see the actual condition. I already placed the order for Gluvit JB Weld Marine-Tex and knowing that I need it.

I know I'll have several questions and I thank you in advance for your help.

Dave

I love your new rig tag! She looks great! Yah, a sanding will probably tell you a lot about how bad that corrosion is.

Welcome!:D

Re: Another Starcraft Restoration : SuperSport 18' 1977

Glad you like the boat. I am the one tagggg bought it from. I will be restoring one myself over the next year or so. After I sold the boat to Dave I found an 83 Four Winns 235. When all was said and done I got it for $850. The motor is shot due to the owner running it without oil. Had an Evinrude 225VRO on it. The trailer bearing went out 5 miles away from his place and until I got it to a garage it was welded fast to the axle. Well when they tried to replace the axle I ended up shipping them the wrong size. When they left it down off the lift, the other axle broke in half. The guy sold me the boat for $1000 but felt bad about the problems so he sent me $150 back. I ended up putting $1200 into two new axles with labor but the trailer is good to go. Now need to figure out the wiring in the boat and the motor issue. Most likely will get a new motor instead of puring money into an older motor. May start a new thread for this later.
Anyway I want to thank Tagggg for the dealings we had. It went very smooth and I am glad he is happy with it. The boat spent most of its life in salt water so hence the pitting I assume. It never leaked that I am aware of. The bottom was painted with anti-fouling paint due to sitting in salt water and the barnacles that would form, etc.
Keep us updated on your progress. :D

Taggg,
Welcome to iboats and the Starcraft Gang! Don't let that pitting scare ya. I 've had a bunch to deal with myself on the Mariner. Marine tex did wonders on the bottom and a planned re-skinning of the transome and good as new.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Hey...mine's a 77 as well. Mine is a Holiday but I was originally looking for an SS like yours.

Use some paint stripper to see what's under there, Marine Tex the corrosion from the outside, hit the inside seams and rivets with Gluvit, some zinc chromate, primer and then some paint and you'll have a boat that will last for the next 50+ years.

Thank you so much for your encouragement :) And your tips for the hull. i'm now more confident

Just one question ( i search on forum, but it's not esasy to find exactly what i search.

I would like to buy now my rivets for the hull and the floor. My plan for the floor is to use 3/4" plywood. What kind of rivet i need exactly ?

The project is officially started. I did a little work inside this weekend. Unfortunately, the rain started so I had to stop. But what pleasure and pride to begin its restoration project ... Here are some pictures.

Here's the link I created to do with the rivets needed. Fastenal had them as well as other fastener companies. Home Depot or the like was only good for the shorter ones.

I did my deck in 3/4 and it's as solid as hell.

thank you for your encouragement

Well, we continue our project! Let's say I had a first surprise. In the first photo, you will see that there were two layers of plywood for the floor

So the floor is now completely removed. Here are some findings:

1 - The floor was rotted .... Dangerous!

2 - There was a lot of water under the plywood (see photos). Well, I know the seller and myself had left outside without cover... But from the start I know there is a leak back (see photo). So the good side, there are no other leaks in the middle of the hull. But the real test is coming (fill the hull with water to see the leaks before Gluvit)

3- And yes, if there was water under the floor, the foam was wet ...garbage time

Some pics...
