Re: Another Try - Maxum 2700
I was just interested in how the deal went with the dealer? I used to work for a powersports dealership, we sold boats, ski's, motorcycles, new and used. Did you bargin with them enough to get to their bottom price?
From my experience dealing with used boats or bikes, the markup is generally pretty big. The boat is usually taken in on trade, and the dealership normally steals it from the original party. We had ALOT more wiggle room dealing with something used than new. I always new when a customer came in and was "Fishing" or if he was serious. How? If they threw out some lowball offer, I stick out my hand and ask for their credit card and watch em crap their pants.
Can't tell you how many used bikes I saw get sold where the dealer made a couple G's on the deal. But on the flip side I've sold many bikes where we made a couple hundred dollars, because we were dealing with a smart customer.
I realize you are done with your boat search, congrats! But for those of you still looking, don't be afraid of a dealer...Go in there, be ready to deal, whip out a credit card to show them you are serious, bargin hard and be happy, or walk out.
Most dealerships DO NOT like to see people walk out when they know you were willing to buy. Especially in this type of economy. A general rule is that if you make an offer, and they come back out, hand you your credit card and send you on your way, you weren't even close to where they were willing to deal. If they take forever in the "Room" and come back out with another offer..you are "probably" going to get what you want, and they are trying to get a "bump" out of you. Tell them that you've made your offer, and thats it and get up to leave. If they try and stop you, your probably in..if they don't, tell them you'll think about they're counter offer and get back to them. Unless you are fine with their offer of course. At least at that point you'll know you are at their bottom.
Bottom line, don't be afraid to lowball a dealer..just be prepared to deal if you do. Also, DO NOT let them run your credit before you get the deal you want if you are planning on financing. Tell them you are going to use your own financing and have already been approved. If they run your credit, they can find out how much money you have available to you before they even come back out with a price..from there they can do all sorts of things, like trying to sell you "back end", meaning warranties, service contracts ect. They'll try and hide the price with some super low payment. Some will even lie to you and tell you, you can only get a low finance percent if you buy a warranty or service contract. DO NOT believe them. Buy what you want, but don't let them push you into buying it. Regarless of what you are approved for or the payments they are giving you..REMEMBER THE BOTTOM LINE PRICE!
Just my 2 cents. Take it for what its worth.
