I did not. One hell of a machine! That's for sure!Did you know that a lot of the internal parts in the Consew are made by Seiko, the watch folks?
Only problem with it is that it has no reverse. If you are looking at Juki's, look for the 562 or 563 that are basically the same machine but with reverse. After reading this thread, I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these machines and trying my own hand at upholstery for the boat. I can get a Juki Lu-55 for about $300 (with motor and stand). Would that machine be up to the task?
Agreed. My Consew 226R uses small bobbins and wish they were bigger. Having said that, it's not a huge issue. I make boat covers which uses way more thread than upholstery. If I have a really long seam, I will switch out my bobbin before I run the seam. I have many bobbins pre-filled with my thread color I am using ahead of time. I also use one spool of thread for my machine and one spool for my bobbin winder so I never have to re-thread the machine. The LU 562 is a small Bobbin.machine which neccitates changing the bobbin much more often. The 563 uses the Class "M" large bobbins. Much better to have the large bobbins.
Which model do you own?I bought my Consew new about 15 years ago. It has been through a lot of jobs and has performed flawlessly. Just have to top off the oil reservoirs every now and then and oil the few parts that aren't self oiling.

Of course with my 1lb spool of $200 SolarFix thread, I only have one spool since the stuff is so darn expensive. Using SolarFix on my next project.Well there ya go....why have I not thought of that with the 2 spools.... for petes sake!! I also have many many bobbins....will wind up 10 or 15 if I know Ill be using the same color for a while. Thanks for the tip!
And people complain and want to know why marine upholstery is so expensive.Of course with my 1lb spool of $200 SolarFix thread, I only have one spool since the stuff is so darn expensive. Using SolarFix on my next project.
Have you used the SolarFix thread or Tenara before? I heard Tenara is tough to work with since it twists so I went with SolarFix.And people complain and want to know why marine upholstery is so expensive.
