Re: Another VRO to non VRO ?

The lift pump # 438559 was usually used as part of a two-pump setup on 105HP and other V4 models in the late 90's and early 2000's. It was usually paired with pump # 438557.

From 1991 through 1996, OMC used a single lift pump Part # 433,387
on a limited number of V4 models, mostly 88HP and some 112HP. This pump has been superseded by Part # 438556.

In 1997 and in 1998, OMC used a single lift pump, part number 0438556, on a limited number of 90HP and 115HP motors, including:

The VRO and VRO pumps are much more powerful pumps than the single lift pumps; personally I would not use one alone for your application but would set it up with the two lift pumps so that you eliminate some of the risk of running lean.

Re: Another VRO to non VRO ?

so if i were to use a double lift pump or even single lift pump application what would i do with the pulse limiter line. the pumps referenced above have an intake and output were the VRO has two intakes a pulse limiter/vacum line and one output?
thanks for the help

Look at the outlet for your pulse line and you will find another hole with the two screw holes for holding the conventional lift pump directly to the engine; just block the pulse limiter hole and unplug the lift pump hole and mount the lift pump(s).

if you existing pump is still working there is a simplier fix.

VRO conversion w/ pump still working

if the fuel side on your Pump is still working it is very simple. unplug the 2 line harness going to the oil tank, unplug the 3 or 4 wire harness, going to the Vro pump. cut and cap the oil line going into the motor. add oil to fuel tank, mix well, then remove fuel line at top carb, catching gas in a container, pump the fuel line bulb until you get premixed gas to the carb. you can tell as it will change color. put line back on carb, and go boating.

I'm pretty sure the fuel side is no good. I get a clicking noise when I press the key to prime and when I get her started she will only run if I keep pumping in fuel using the primer bulb and I get a low oil alarm. She will run intermitinly but can never keep going always dies out on me.

The oil side of the VRO/OMS pump cannot be rebuilt nor can the warning system, BUT, the gasoline side of the VRO pump can be rebuilt so that it can be used as a premix only pump. The instructions and the kit, which consists of two parts, are available from Bill Kelly's site: http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcvro.html
